Hi, what do you think is the best way to collect pokemon sets? Im talking about the old ones, where sealed product is really difficult to find and expensive to buy… Completed set listings was my go to but as im getting into e series and some of the neo sets there’s barely any listing(im talking about japanese product not sure if this apllies for english too) and if it is its usally in my opinion overpriced…Actions of these are also very rare…So my goal is to complete every set in nm from base to e series and im pretty much done whith the cheaper ones and now things are starting to get a bit trickier since im a student out of my hometown and i cant spend that much money on cards. Does spliting into smaller sets lets say c/un and then some holos and some singles worth it? (english isnt my native language sorry for any mistakes)
This is a good question. Even for veteran collectors, there is no convenient shortcut. As you mentioned, E-series, neo sets, 1st ed base & shadowless are going to be difficult picking up in complete sets NM+. I recently bought a 1st ed shining mewtwo LP for a binder at $160. The availability has drastically changed for this era.
The best advice anyone can give is knock out the most valuable cards first. You can still find C/U lots for the older sets, but the holos are mostly sold individually and inconsistently.
Thanks for the advise i also wanted to ask what is the best order if you want to split into smaller sets but i forgot it😛
One thing to keep in mind most sellers will make effort to find, protect, and resell that $50 card, but that $.10 card may be forgotten.
