I wish there were more sets that related directly back to the video games or anime. There was nothing cooler for me as a kid than the Rocket and Gym sets. I guess we do sort of have that these days with the full art trainer cards but it isn’t the same.

I agree. it’s just not the same. I particularly like the gym sets because it provides two different avenues of collecting. You have fans of the species and fans of the trainer. I really don’t care for Nidoking but the fact that it’s Giovanni’s Nidoking with a dark style of art makes me want it!

I agree. Amazing set, one you don’t hear mentioned a lot - I think because it’s the middle-child of the E-series, and gets lost between Expedition and Skyridge.

Idk what they were thinking but gym sets should have been some of the best looking WotC sets. Idk how you can screw up stock Sugimori art with a generic background.
They’ve aged terribly and lots of them look like cheap fakes.

This could have been true if they didn’t have Blaine’s Zard in a weird position.
I like the stock Sugimori artwork they used on Blaine’s Zard much more than the base Zard but the execution was awful. It should have been the whole artwork centered properly on a blue background.

Totally agree with @budget here. Gym sets are lazily executed.
Don’t really think any of them are underrated, but if i had to choose? Definitely Expedition.

No it was intentional. I don’t like Golbat. Dumb pokemon and dumb name.
Zubat is bomb I never evolve Zubat into Golbat. I press that b button to cancel evolution
Brock’s a fool he shouldn’t be messing with zubat just stick to ur lame rock pokemon

Hehe. I also always liked Zubat way more than Golbat. Although Crobat isn’t too bad either.
Out of curiosity, why is Zubat your favorite Pokémon? Are bats your favorite animals as well?

Zubat and Crobat are both sleek. Golbat is sorta a chubby bat with wings. Kinda looks like a downgrade. I’ll max out a Zubat’s happiness, evolve it, then immediately evolve it again to jump to Crobat.
Zubat has also been in every Pokémon game. So I have always been able to have him in my party. He’s just boss.
I’m not a fan of bats as animals
Zubat has some pretty cool art tbh.
In my opinion, first edition gym heroes. They have some of the most beautiful Holo Rare artwork
