Pulling a flat V or VMAX of a non popular Pokémon isn’t a hit. A $1 card out of a $4 booster pack is a let down.
I have to disagree, v’s and vmax’s should definitely be considered hits regardless of the Pokémon. Many trainer gallery cards are definitely under $4 and are considered hits. Just because the holo you pulled is a charizard ( from the Pokémon go set) shouldn’t make it anymore of a “hit” than if you pulled a wyrdeer v (from astral)
What a “hit” is varies person to person.
V’s and Vmaxes are hits, but from an art perspective, the amazing rares, radiants, trainer gallery, alt arts look better imo. I get more excited for a kyogre amazing rare pull than a crobat v pull, even though the crobat is more expensive and arguably rarer a pull from the set (shining fates).
Pokemon games would be better if they continued to iterate on 2D sprite work, and the transition to 3D as the only medium is a disservice.
If the value of a card doesn’t cover the cost of the pack is it really a ‘hit?’
depends what you mean by “hit”. I took it as people getting excited for pulls, not so much the value the pulls bring in relation to the pack cost. For the former, anything can be a hit. For the latter, only a few cards are hits.
Is this even an unpopular opinion? I miss the old games…
That’s what I believe. And as a non-holo collector for my arts, it was VERY annoying. ![]()
SWSH holo pattern is absolutely garbage and I would rather a non holo almost every single time. Standard V cards look and feel incredibly cheap, they are so glossy that it looks like the entire front is coated in plastic.
They have done horizontal lines, sheen, sheen 2.0, and then vertical holo lines…
I wonder what we will get with scvi…maybe DIAGONAL LINES ![]()
I think Pokémon has done well with the transition to 3D and is continuing to improve and keep up with modern gaming trends. Do you mind elaborating on how 3D is a disservice to the games? Because I’d argue refusing to evolve would be a disservice to the franchise. As a kid I’d always imagined playing the games in 3D and now that we have it, it’s unpopular? The grass is always greener I suppose…
You don’t have to miss them! Dust of the old cartridge and take a trip down memory lane!
I would consider a pack fresh rev Torchic a hit if I were to open a sealed ex series pack. Not worth the cost of the pack even when it gets a PSA 10 most of the time. But I’d easily trade money for time wasted spent hunting mint raws - again, unpopular opinion ![]()
The games themselves look pretty meh from a graphical standpoint. I think thats the primary issue people have. While I prefer the 3d games, they do feel a bit dated on the graphics. It doesn’t take away from the experience for me, but I can definitely see others being a bit annoyed with it. Supposedly its because of the Switch hardware…but the playground rumor is that its Gamefreak being lazy. A mixture of both maybe ![]()
I really enjoyed BDSP and thought the games looked superb. I would love for the 2d-2dish style to be more commonplace in the future, as there are fewer limitations on grahpics, and thats what the early games were anyways.
It doesn’t seem like an unpopular opinion, I hear the same grievances on Instagram and youtube often. I think if you look at it from TPCI’s perspective you might see where I’m coming from. Pokémon has to continue reaching new generations of fans, they can’t always cater to the old timers. How many 7-10 year olds do you see buying Octopath Traveler? Maybe I’m just an optimist when it comes to Pokémon. I’m glad you’re still enjoying the new games though! ![]()
I’m definitely more an optimist for Pokemon as well. I was just pointing out what I see online. I think that most people are fond of the games and will continue to buy them. If they don’t there are plenty of kids that are going to go crazy over this stuff, and thats what Pokemon really cares about like you said.
Pokemon could milk every era with a quality remake like Hgss. A game with the option to switch or play enhanced retro 2d mode or current gen would be nuts. Kind of like halo anniversary, but maybe pokemon is too complex to just toggle back and fourth between the two versions.
Better hope qwachansey doesn’t see this one… ![]()
I agree with the underlying premise of this (i.e. that the way they currently do 3D style is unimaginative and repetitive), but I don’t think a change back to 2D would help. I think there is so much to explore with 3D animations, like creating unique actions for the Pokemon to perform, battle/move animations (why not have them actually dodge moves or have the moves physically miss instead of just putting the text on the screen), and even just updating the 3D sprites. Legends Arceus did some great stuff with this, so I can only hope it continues in S/V.
