Jhoto’s level curve is so uneventful kinda why i don’t mind the more linear games tbh it actually feels like ur getting somewhere at every part of the story.
I hate pretty much all the bike stuff. Bike voucher, no select register, select register, Oak’s constant nagging, the Kanto Cycling road, Acro, Mach, the swapping at Rydel’s, the Seaside Cycling road. The protagonist is an 11 year old boy from a small town, why does he need to obtain a bike?!
On a tangentially related note, I won’t bother typing out a giant rant about the GSC Pokegear, but let’s just say I’m not a fan of the execution there either.
I like that after gen 5 they tried new things. Roller skates, ride Pokémon, the galar bike doesn’t suck, then two different instances of ride Pokémon again
I think it’s XY where if you don’t move for a few seconds he’ll start doing tricks on the bike? God that was annoying, like a dvd player pause screen.
ORAS Mega Lati twins are kind of cool.
Lake of Rage and the Red Gyarados is just perfection
Fun fact, I was playing with the red gyarados in my soul silver team long enough that when I got a non shiny one in the battle factory I momentarily thought something was wrong with my game
Going off of whitney as Its pretty obscure, but the blocks in her gym create a big clefairy. Always thought that was cool. You have to zoom out to see it though in full.
My own perfect execution in a main series game would be in Pokemon X&Y’s Battle Maison. I have never taken the games competitively at all, always for fun. I thought I knew how to play well, breezing through every game although, never really making it far at Battle Tower in previous games. So I decided I’d try my hand at a sweaty comp team in the Maison and I became hooked.
I had built a few teams and survived the initial waves of the regular cups in singles and doubles and unlocked the Super versions. This is where things became rather challenging for me as a non-competitive player. After much blood, sweat & tears, I completed the 50 streak Super versions and defeated the boss.
The rewards were cool trophies in the games Battle Maison lobby and my Pokemon received beautiful ribbons showing their prowess in battle.
I recall having two Dragonite’s for one of the challenges. The first was called Puff and Puff took me all the way to my 49 streak, what a darling. Since he defeated the first boss from the regular cup I believe he got the Skillful Battler Ribbon. The second Dragonite who rose to the challenge was Monsta, with a different move set specifically constructed for the final boss, Monsta gained the Expert Battler Ribbon in victory.
I feel bad Puff never got the Expert Ribbon too, it was much deserved and he fought well! I still use them sometimes on my main series games for nostalgia.
As for my worst executed, let’s not talk about them.
The battle maison was great. I was only able to finish the multi in oras. Maybe I should’ve tried harder. Although, that’s the first battle tower facility I know of that actively cheats (that is, after a certain streak number selectively starts to pair you with opponents with counters to your team). I was disappointed that it was a copy paste in oras in lieu of a battle frontier. Sticking a Lucy cameo was not enough!
For me, Route 119 leading to Fortree City in Gen 3 was a magical moment that stood out.
It felt entirely different from anything I had experienced in previous games. The moment you get Surf and cross into Route 118 and 119, you’re stepping into a world that feels untamed, almost alive. The tall grass towers over you, swaying in the breeze, and you can hear the distant calls of unseen wild Pokémon, adding to the sense of mystery. Reflections of clouds shimmer in the puddles along the path, creating this serene, almost dreamlike atmosphere. It truly felt like I was venturing into a brand-new, wild frontier, where every step was part of a thrilling discovery
among the things I’d like to experience again for the first time is walking through route 113. Similar kind of ethereal feel
