I recently bought a PSA 10 card, and after inspecting it closely, I noticed what looks like two small spots on the back near the edge. They don’t appear to be on the outside of the slab, so I’m wondering if they’re either on the card itself or on the inside of the PSA case.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? If so, did it affect the value of the card? I know it’s still officially a PSA 10, but I’m curious
A lot of people like me prefer buying grades rather than cards. Other people would rather buy a “clean” 8 or 9". The value should remain the same and is practically guaranteed by PSA. You’re welcome to send it to PSA for a review if you want to see if they can downgrade it and pay you the difference.
Sorry this happened to you! Getting something in the slab in unfortunately a pretty common thing to happen. I have a couple slabs that have some plasticky bits on the inside. You could pay to send it back to reholder, but there’s no guarantee that it wouldn’t happen again. It doesn’t affect the value at all. And if it does then you weren’t meant to sell the card to that person anyway boo boo
Yes, this has happened to me. No, it didn’t affect the value of the card. For every one collector who is extra picky about the card’s condition or the slab’s condition, there are dozens or hundreds of buyers who will purchase it for the label alone.
In booms, I’ve seen more label chasing. During lulls, I’ve seen more pickiness. I think this is a reflection of the underlying characteristics of who buys during these times, their motivations, and the availability of supply.
When demand is high and supply is low, you can’t afford to be picky. When demand is low and supply is high, you have numerous copies to choose from and can be more picky.
