(Disclosure- This is a fictional game. Any likeness to actual forum members or events is purely coincidential and not meant to portray real members or events.)
You may want to mention somewhere (at the top of the thread or title) that this is a fictional case for a forum game, and the cards are not actually stolen. Your thread and first few paragraphs scared me for a moment, ngl..
The Crime: Theft of the “The Super Rank Darkrai DPt-P Pikachu” card.
The Victim: PFM, a highly respected, if somewhat proud, collector.
PFM’s Reputation:
PFM is a “true collector” who often boasts about the ‘historical significance’ and ‘pure joy’ of owning cards, frequently criticizing ‘investors’ for seeing cards only as dollar signs. His public persona is one of a purist. In addition to his fondness of furry lop eared creatures, he is also extremely particular about the orientation of the energy symbol on his cards. Every single Basic Energy card in his collection must have its energy symbol facing the exact same direction. He has a custom-made ‘Energy-Orientator’ tool for this purpose. This is a running gag in the forum.
Time of Crime: Sometime between October 29th and 30th, 2025.
Details: The card was stored in a protective “Penny Sleeve” and magnetic card holder in a locked display case. There were no signs of forced entry. This suggests the thief is someone with knowledge of PFM’s collection and security. The only thing left behind was a small, taunting note that read, “You can’t catch what you can’t see.”
The Suspects
Here are the bios for the four individuals who had access to or detailed knowledge of PFM’s collection. In 2025, during Pokémon World’s Championships, following the e4 meetup, PFM offered a tour of his secure collection. All these forum members attended.
Water_Master
Public Persona: A fierce and competitive collector known for their high-end water Pokémon cards. They lost a heated auction to PFM for a ‘Shining Magikarp’ and posted that he “didn’t deserve” it. They are a vocal “true collector” who despises investors.
Quirks: They have an irrational hatred for any Pokémon card that has a fire energy symbol printed slightly off-center. They will go on rants about “misaligned fire energy is a metaphor for the hobby’s decline,” making her rants both angry and absurdly specific.
Their Secret: Despite their purist stance, recent rumors suggest They have been purchasing massive, sealed cases of new sets like Destined Rivals and storing them unopened.
'Rocket_Grunt88
Public Persona: A new member who quickly gained a reputation for aggressive trading tactics and encyclopedic knowledge of market values. The messaged Professor Oak asking detailed questions about the “The Supr Rank Darkrai DPt-P” and his security.
Quirks: They constantly use financial jargon in everyday conversation. They might say, “I have to de-leverage my schedule” or “that’s not a viable ROI for my time.” This makes their interactions with the more emotional collectors consistently funny and out of touch.
Their Secret: Our records show that ‘Rocket_Grunt88’ is not a single person. The account has been accessed from different cities across the country at different times.
Nurse_Joy_Collection
Public Persona: A long-time friend of PFM, beloved for their collection of healing-themed Pokémon. Publicly a pillar of the community,
*Quirk: Their ‘healing’ theme extends to the physical state of her cards. They buy ‘played’ (PL) condition cards and meticulously attempt to “heal” them using gentle cleaning techniques they find online, which they calls ‘card first aid’. They are always asking for advice on how to fix creases.
The Secret: PFM’s security system logged an entry code used the night of the theft. This code was the spare that he only ever gave to ‘Nurse_Joy_Collection’ for emergencies. They claims They were at a charity gala all night.
'Mr_Fuji’** **
Public Persona: A respected authenticator who had a public, heated argument with PFM over a potential fake card, damaging his professional pride.
*Quirk: He is obsessed with the weight of cards to detect fakes. He carries a small, high-precision jeweler’s scale everywhere and will subtly try to weigh people’s decks or cards during meetups, which is a recurring meme on the forum. He’ll mumble things like “Hmm, a little light on the back coloring” at the most inappropriate moments.
Their Secret: Records indicate that Mr. Fuji has a history with PFM that goes back decades, long before the recent argument. They were business partners in a failed card shop venture years ago that ended very badly. Was the recent public fight just a cover for a much deeper, long-standing resentment and motive? The true nature of their past dispute remains unknown.
Right now, 'Rocket_Grunt88 is my top suspect in terms of accounts.
It mentions they often ask details questions about the stolen cards and its security.
They also talk in a financial jargon, so (investment) values are likely more important to them than collecting/nostalgia/etc.
Having said that, since it’s a new member and since it’s mentioned they’re not a single person at their secret, it could still be any of the other three suspects, which use 'Rocket_Grunt88 as a spare account to login with.
(In that case, Nurse_Joy_Collection with their spare key secret is high on the suspect list, although they might just have been scammed out of their key somehow, perhaps when someone provided a very good ‘card first aid’ miracle solution.)
Just my 2c based on the suspect bios thus far.
PS: Thanks for the edits to the title and disclaimer, much better.
An anonymous user posted the following image to a small, obscure Pokémon trading subreddit before the post was quickly deleted. The user’s name was untraceable. The image is blurry, but our very own @lyleberr was able to snatch a Reddit image and clean it up slightly.
It appears to be the thief showing off the stolen " Super Rank Darkrai DPt-P." More importantly, another card from the thief’s personal binder is peeking out from the side.
A slightly out-of-focus photo. In the center is the stolen card. To the left, partially obscured, is the distinctive corner of another Pokémon card. The visible portion of this second card shows a yellow boarder and…
It seems questionable that “Mr. Fuji” himself would have his own card in a binder. As an “authenticator,” wouldn’t he prefer a graded copy, ideally in the highest possible grade?
Maybe there’s something deeper going on here. Among other Pokemon, Mr. Fuji features Poliwag, a water-type Pokemon. Having a binder of water-type cameo cards sounds like exactly the type of thing a “tru collector” of water Pokemon would do. I am suspicious of Water_Master…
I’m thinking maybe Rocket Grunt is just Water_Master on a VPN, letting their true colors show. That would make my suspect #1 Water_Master.
Given that Water_Master has been a long time member, it’s possible they would have known about Mr. Fuji’s and Nurse Joy’s collection’s bios and used that information in their plan.
They also have a strong motive for taking something from PFM, something PFM cherishes, as retaliation for PFM taking away their Shining Magikarp through the auction.
Not sure how they get the code from Nurse Joy though?
Mr Fugi and Nurse Joy have public collection threads on the forum. Water_Master Both of them. Though they may just have during Valentines Day Love explosion…
Detectives, our investigation has uncovered another strange piece of evidence. A popular Pokémon market analysis YouTuber, known as ‘The Holo Prophet’, posted a video around the time of the theft that has since been removed.
Fortunately, one of our forum members grabbed this screenshot of a comment section exchange before the video was taken down. The video itself was a highly speculative “what if” scenario discussing the market impact if a card of the “The Super Rank Darkrai DPt-P’s” caliber were to disappear.
The Holo Prophet: “Imagine the price spike if a one-of-a-kind card was removed from the public market! We’re talking 5x-10x potential for other ultra-rare Pikachus! ”
User ‘CardShark99’ : “@The Holo Prophet This speculation is reckless. True collectors care about history, not market manipulation. You’re ruining the hobby.”
User ‘Rocket_Grunt88’: “@The Holo Prophet Huge potential. The scarcity alone drives the value. I’ve been saying this for weeks. This is a game-changer for the high-end market.”
User ‘Mr_Gyarados’: “@The Holo Prophet Disgusting. This is exactly what the issue is in this hobby. You see a tragic event as a stock opportunity.”
