Can’t we all just be courteous of others views? Why must it always devolve into petty bullshit?
Here are some points I see:

Suddenly there are a lot of price recording threads. While this is great on the surface, here are a couple of issues I see with the practice.

1. They seem to attempt to mark a line in the sand and are usually constructed by those with a vested interest.
2. They reflect private sales - and although many of you are likely to be very trustworthy, I am also aware how prevalent shill bids are in the public’s eye, let alone the real potential for people to attempt to shift values through facade sales. Some might state that this is a pessimistic view but I prefer to see it as a realistic one. I understand that many sales go this route to avoid sales tax and other service fees, but they are still deals made behind closed doors and as such cannot be viewed without caution. I am not suggesting anything nefarious has occurred here, just that it isn’t improbable that it could occur.

The next point is sales with trade components.

Sales with trade components have more moving parts. Instead of just having the price of one card being the variable against a selected currency, there are more, and as such they are inclined to move disproportionally making them unable to as easily express accurate price equivalencies when compared to money.

Then there is the point that usually someone in a trade deal comes out better or worse than if the transaction was made via money. This again highlights the inefficient nature of using trade deals as price point landmarks. I’m not pouring any negativity into this conversation, I am just merely providing another, probably unimportant point of view.

I am all for sharing this information. I don’t really think this thread is a shining example of how to do that and perhaps there should be a ‘giant price landmark thread’ or something similar. But that’s my opinion and I don’t assume it to be shared by everyone.

I also find the dick measuring to be quite silly.

The idea that successful people with money would not participate in discussions, or bargain buy is a bit rich.
I personally find I get the most enjoyment from this hobby by keeping a finger on the pulse of a lot of what other people would call pretty average items – sure I can buy them now, but that’s not the point. I have my work and investments outside of pokemon, watching parts of the market is my fun; and at times obsessively so. My time is no less valuable because of it, it just means I value the enjoyment it provides, that much more. In a lot of ways the lifeblood of the market is the hobby for me. More so than collecting the cardboard itself.
But everyone is different and I choose to respect that.

So if someone is proud of a PSA 8 or any other items, then I am happy for them and don’t think anyone should ever shame anyone else for the things they derive enjoyment from that are both legal and well within societal norms.

Maybe “data point” would have been a better word to use.
I in now way wanted to makebthe point that “this is now the going price and anyone who pays less than this price for a fake card is a fake fan” or something along those lines. If two other parties make a deal for another psa trophy kangaskhan and their price point is 70k, that’s more than okay. I’d imagine that someone wouldn’t mind accepting a little less money for all of the cash up front.
There are also 3 copies on ebay now with the lowest price being 120k OBO. So if the next sale happens to be 100k, I wouldn’t consider that the minimum for a card like this. I just love data and thought this was a really fun and interesting sale. Since this card isn’t sold very often.
I understand you being in the side if caution with private sales.

@chavycat , I have nothing against you or your post. I’m happy for you and @hyruleguardian . I just wanted to remind people to be critical thinkers overall.

Secondly, you should be at least happy our hobby is healthy since with all this cash of yours you’ll have no problem affording anything you want !

Why are you trying so hard to fit in? You haven’t been a part of this conversation and decide to jump in on page 6 to voice your opinion that nobody asked for nor cares for and is completely irrelevant. Nobody listens or takes you serious at home so you get off trying to mouth off on the internet or what? This thread is exactly why I don’t share private sales.

Sorry you guys are getting salt for sharing a unique transaction. It’s unfortunate our hobby is so relentlessly immature.

You’re adding absolutely no value to the discussion, but especially the untraditional response one user made in regards to the post and the discussion that ensued. And that’s totally fine given your position on the forum and where you stand in general on the actual subject discussed, but I’d like to know why some member’s (although, perhaps very aggressive) opinion is considered “salty” when he is only suggesting this thread, its title and its original premise is potentially misleading?

Except that is not “only” what the member suggested.

They also:

• flexed that their assets had “a extra digit” than chavycat’s;
• told chavycat that they feel bad for his clients if he works in risk and data analysis;
• went on to say that they wouldn’t put that much into a single card;
• said they own “an eight-figure home” for whatever reason

Not to mention that calling the hobby “hilarious” in their original post probably wasn’t the best way to get an honest discussion going.

That is why the poster is receiving this type of response.

The way the poster was behaving throughout the rest of the thread after their OP was an indication of the salt that Scott is referring to. They could have just said “the deal isn’t really done” and left it at that without essentially trying to tell chavy that he was stupid for putting that much money into the card or attempting to tell everyone how big their house is.

Maybe the poster wasn’t initially being salty, but their follow-up posts sure don’t seem to indicate that.

Anyway, congratulations to both @chavycat and @hyruleguardian . That’s all that really matters here.

It is crazy you guys are all acting like tomorrow is guaranteed and life doesn’t happen. Look at how different all of our lives were 6 months ago.

The bottomline is that the card is not sold, therefore this is not the new price point.

In 6 months when the money is exchanged and the deal is complete, it will be a new price point.

If I put a down payment on a car, and finance the rest, technically it’s ‘sold’ but if I don’t have possesion of the title and if I dont pay the remaining balance the car it will be repo’d. Chavy is not in possession of the card and enlightened isn’t in possession of the money, the deal is simply not done.

They have agreed on a price and set out payment terms with a 20% downpayment.

@chavycat just got a bit excited on his new ‘purchase’ and couldn’t wait to flex, his follow up post with his bank account is just further proof.

Oh well, I am not in the market for these cards and I wouldn’t put nearly all of my net worth into a single card, or hope to sell off cards to fund $50k, especially in these uncertain times.

Like I said, goodluck to everyone and I hope the deal works out.

Was a post somewhere in this thread deleted? Unless I missed something; no one cares that you have an extra digit in your assets and wouldn’t drop 80k on a card. No one cares that you aren’t in the market for a Kang. Literally no one asked for your blessing on their exchange.

All I was saying is that life happens, and that a million things could happen before the 6 month deadline and as of today the card isn’t paid for in full so it would be wise to wait until the deal is complete to announce the sale. Then chavycat decided to post a screenshot of his trading account. I simply said I have a bit more money then his screenshot and I wouldn’t feel comfortable spending $80k on a single card, especially if I only have $75k in ‘assests’ .

I’ve been on mobile the entire time and quickly typing the messages while in between other stuff. Nearly every member here is hyper critical and looking for any excuse to belittle or attack someone with a differing opinion. I’ve been here for 1.5 years and seen it time and time again on the discord and on the forum.

Sorry to rustle everyone’s jimmies, like I said 15 times now, I hope the deal works out and goodluck to everyone involved.

Chavycat posted his trading account, in response to me saying that life could happen and the deal might fall through. I made no mention of his financial situation. 6 months ago all of our lives were very different, who knows what’s the next 6 months holds.

I just responded, saying personally I wouldn’t spend $80k on a card if I only had $75k in assets.

Then qwachansey compared getting a car loan or a mortgage to this deal. So I responded saying if I stopped paying the mortgage on my home I would loose it.

I didn’t just shoot my mouth off, I responded.

I came across salty, and could have worded my initial few post salty and too aggressive, my fault.
