Troll & Toad Near Mint rating... trustworthy?

As many have already stated, it can be pretty hit or miss with T&T. However, let me add my anecdote…

I’ve used T&T in the past few years to order cards for playing purposes so condition has never really been a primary concern. During this time, I don’t ever recall receiving a NM card that would grade less than a PSA 7.

So earlier this year, I thought I might as well use T&T to fill out some of my binder sets. Bad idea. I received several “NM” cards that were in god awful condition. Here’s an example of one of those cards:

At that time I wasn’t hugely concerned because I understand that this stuff happens every now and then, but I (naively) believed T&T would make it right. I emailed T&T, explained what was wrong, and sent them images of the damaged cards. No answer. I followed up in a few weeks. No answer. At that point I gave up and decided to just chalk it up as a loss.

Anyways, I’ve completely stopped using T&T since then because while I can sympathize with cards being erroneously sent I can’t support a company that has such poor customer service. I’d rather pay a small premium and purchase cards on eBay with front/back images (from sellers that generally care) then to deal with a corporation who won’t give me the time of day.

Tcgplayer is a similar company because you also can’t see pictures of the front or back 95 percent of the time. The difference is there is hundreds of different sellers to choose from on there. At the same time their customer service is the best I’ve ever seen. Whenever I’m not happy with the cards condition I’m always able to receive a partial refund of what I myself deem fair or i can return the card. I usually go with partial refund to save hassle. Sometimes it’s also hard to get near mint cards but some sellers have great condition standards. You just have to figure out what sellers you trust by trial and error. Overall it’s a great site and 90 percent of the time they have the best prices.

Oh yeah, that’s a great suggestion. I remember looking at TCGplayer in the past, but they use to charge an arm and a leg for international shipping. Seems like that’s changed now so I’ll definitely give it a try.
