Troll and Toad

@pokecollectoramy Good point. I’d like what I read but it would be a waste of time for people to read especially if none of its true. Troll and toad hasn’t messed up one of my orders yet it’s just the no tracking threw me off

@mcorey777, I actually put the ninetales on auction with a bunch other cards

O well. I missed out on that one. I usually buy ungraded anyways but it’s one of my favorites so I almost paid the extra but I was still up in the air on it anyways. I’m sure I’ll grab something off you one of these days

Once bought out troll and toads shadowless holos like all near mint and I believe lightly played copies. At the time they were pretty cheap but it was still couple thousand bucks. It was over 100 cards and I don’t remember the exact number but around 10 ended up being 1st edition base holos.

T&T is super slow right now. I purchased a few cards from them on the 9th and they didn’t ship until the 20th. And relative to condition, as has been mentioned by a few others, T&T is inconsistent. But I’ve actually had some luck. If the price is low enough, I usually take the risk. I’d say that probably 60% of the ‘NM’ cards I get from them are solid. And occasionally you’ll get very lucky and get something gradable, but usually it’s PSA 7 range cards. When they make condition mistakes, they offer you 15% back (which is pathetically low), but they luckily have a pretty lax return policy. Overall, they’re not great, but some of their cards are not too bad, condition-wise.

Honestly, they are much worse for MTG. I remember ordering a playset of foil Careful Studies from them (labeled as NM) and they all had shuffle creases and clouding. Sometimes people joke about damaged cards being “Troll & Toad NM.” I think that’s a bit harsh, but it has some truth. Luckily, they seem somewhat better for Pokemon. But yeah, they seem to be shipping very slowly right now…

I actually experienced the same issue with shipping regarding Troll and Toad @mcorey777 . I made a topic in Sour Grapes regarding my frustration with the shipping taking so long despite me being in the neighboring state (they’re in Kentucky & I’m in Ohio), but it did eventually arrive - 3 weeks later for me.

The reason it took so long is because they used a different method of packaging/sending the cards, in a stiff envelope rather than the typical bubble mailer. My cards were not damaged, but I will advise you to be very careful when opening the envelope, as you will most likely require scissors (mine was sealed and taped - very hard to rip/open). I had to be very careful in opening the envelope, because I did not want to accidentally bend/cut any of my cards but I was able to open the envelope and not sustain any damage.

Overall, don’t worry as your cards are definitely on the way…just don’t expect them any time soon!

Bought some psa graded cards mid April for around 150$, apparently the shipping is without tracking and did not arrive yet. I’m used to tt packages taking 1month+ though so no worries for now!

I made quite a few purchases from TrollandToad between 2018-2019. Being in the UK it would it take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to arrive.

I would also use their cheapest shipping method. Apart from my last order I paid no customs fees whatsoever. They would route the packages through Switzerland. Their customer service is also fairly good for the most part.

Their grading does leave something to be desired though. A number of times I received cards that were supposed to be NM which clearly were not. They usually offered a 20% refund which was easier than having to send them back. I will say of all the higher end cards I purchased they were always in great condition.

update: 1/2 arrived

Almost all Pokemon cards I’ve ordered that are classified as near-mint on their site, have come in as PSA 6/7 grade at best. Their bulk sorters either need better training or to get their eyes checked.

the issue I have with T&T is their customer service sometimes is useless. I remember selling cards to them and they took almost 3 weeks to pay for it when they said it would take 2 weeks. as for ordering I’ve only ordered a few things from them and they take too long to ship but also like others have said their cards that state near mint is not near mint. sometimes I rather just go to a card shop and look at cards myself to check out condition

I recently ordered a slab from troll and toad and it arrived in 2/3 days, I used their free shipping method and it was tracked. Might be a roll of the dice when it comes to shopping with them. I’ve generally avoided t&t for raw cards from reputation but never had a problem with slabs coming on time.

I’ve never had an issue with raw cards for them…buying or selling…thankfully. I’ve even gotten a lot of psa 9 and 10s out of it. Although I have returned cards before for being ridiculously scratched up

I decided to try troll and toad for raw cards again. It’s been years since I ordered from them, I have never purchased Pokemon cards from them, and I was partially inspired by this thread to give them a shot. I have a number of gaps in my EX Ruby & Sapphire reverse holo set, so I went through and ordered the ones I needed from them in “NM”. I ordered about 40 cards in total of about 15 or so unique cards. I bought out the inventory of each card I could to increase the odds of getting a mint copy. So, out of 40 cards… drumroll… only one should grade a PSA 8. It was a reverse Blaziken so I was quite happy about that. The rest are probably in the PSA 6/7 range. The backs of a decent number of the cards are in the 8/9 range. The main issue on most is terrible holo scratches. Maybe it was unfair to try them for reverse holos and they do better on non-holo cards. But it’s a good reminder why I typically buy PSA graded cards and crack them out to get a mint copy.

EDIT: the cards were also shipped without sleeves in a way that they could rub against each other. I’m assuming the holo scratches were there beforehand but that didn’t help.

I can confirm that recently most NM holos are pretty bad quality as well as rejecting many send ins for not being NM so maybe they are being more strict?

This. I honestly think if they improved their shipping & handling of cards in their warehouse, the quality would skyrocket. While I understand the sentiment that raw cards from T&T are not exactly meant for collectors, they could really up their quality if they made some small changes. There’s just no other explanation for the number of “good backs, beat up fronts.”

Ordered 3 English Southern Island holos listed as near mint. All were cheap enough so it was worth rolling the dice. Ledyba came with bent corner, Vileplume looked like a 7 so it’s staying in a binder. The Togepi however, solid 8 with a slight chance at a 9. With the way prices are heading, I’ll be sending it in.

I have had no problems at all selling to them. Have sold thousands of dollars worth of cards over the last 8ish years and theyve only knocked down the price a handful of times for amounts that haven’t impacted me at all. They’ve even been nice and sent back the cards to me when i disagreed on price with them.

This isn’t exclusive to Troll and Toad, but anytime companies ship cards packed in a single penny sleeve, part of me dies haha. Seriously, the supply of available, genuinely raw mint cards is dwindling, whether they’re being graded, part of collections, or being damaged because of improper handling or other reasons. The first and second are part of the hobby but honestly, from a collecting standpoint anytime mint cards are damaged because companies are saving money on penny sleeves/top loaders it makes me a little sad. I definitely don’t think companies have to sell gem mint cards but if it’s damage that could have been avoided I wish they would :slightly_frowning_face:
