Timing

Hey peeps

So I started collecting Pokémon in 99 at age of 9 in the land down under and we never got 1st editions.

Having watched Gary’s, smpratte and noting the backlog of orders with psa I’m hoping finishing my unlimited collection to be easier as prices fall.

But in terms of accessing 1st editions some have now reached the Aussie market and I have an offer for 32 uncommon / common jungle for 250 aud (184 USD).

Now I love that era so I don’t really care if I lose money but do you think 1st editions will be insulated from base influx. Also is 1st edition jungle stamp the same as 1st edition base set stamp in terms of importance , like I assume jungle will always be inferior to base set in price.

I guess I’m asking should I just buy 1st edition base set instead

What’s the goal of tge unlimited collection? All wotc? If it doesn’t really matter than collect whatever you want. If you want base set go for that, if it’s Jungle than just accept the offer

Well I’d finish collecting the 151 unlimited to have my collection but now I know there is 1st edition cards that are much more valuable to have then I’d be looking to buy them. But jungle and fossil isn’t base set so is there any point in collecting 1st edition jungle if I already have unlimited, does that make sense?

What do you want? Asking other people what you should collect is going to give you an artificial answer, and not one that is of any use to you. You should collect for yourself, not other people. If you want all of the cards in all of the sets you’ve mentioned, write out a priority order in which you want to collect them. If you don’t feel like you want 1st edition jungle because you have all the arts in unlimited, then don’t collect 1st edition jungle. Not doing stuff is super easy. If you’re struggling with deciding which to buy first because of price fluctuations, then the rule of thumb is to start with the most expensive, even if it’s not necessarily at the top of your priority list.

If you’re STILL struggling, try thinking of it this way: if Pokemon went to 0 in 12 months’ time and selling became impossible, what cards, or sets of cards, would you NOT regret having bought? Start there.
