I have a single topps card in my collection, a beat up Pikachu that my dad found while cleaning the house some years ago and happily said “you like this guy” when he handed it to me.
pop 17 vs pop 600 lol
I can’t say how uninterested I am in Topps Pokemon cards. TCG or nothing for me
Rather take a custom card with better art than Topps
I love the Topps set! It’s unique artwork with some cool chase card variants. It also has nostalgia factor for me from my childhood. With all that said, I would never pay 11k for a singular Topps card. 1st edition base is superior in every way.
From my personal experience Tekno Topps are monopolized by the same people hyping them. So even tho I really like Topps, I just feel like a fool investing on them.
The punchline is that no explanation is needed for the charizord 1st ed but both the reddit and on here, the tekno needs an explanation on why the comparison is supposedly valid.
If you were there since the beginning of Pokémon, you probably don’t like the topps cards. Like others have said, they were the bargain bin cards. You didn’t want them back then, so why would you want them now? Maybe the newer generation will like them.
I once knew a guy that only had Topps cards and was unfamiliar with the concept of trading.
Talk about culture shock.
I’m not a big fan of Topps either except the first appearance ghost holos I will say are cool to me. That said, there is a collector base for them. When I go to conventions, there does seem to be a decent deal of knowledge and popularity around them just walking around talking to people.
More like “Bottoms”, imo.
Do you own a topps pokemon card?

Even as a kid the Topps cards left a sour taste in my mouth. I guess it was the type of foiling used. Nothing tastes as good as wotc cardstock and ink.
I collect topps cards to an extent, but its not even a debate, 1st edition base everytime for me. And ill be honest, I actually prefer the look of the standard chrome over the teckno!
This is a no-brainer IMO – even to collectors of Topps cards…
1st Ed Zord all the way.
