Ik people are grading JP Modern AAs and all which makes sense. I recently bought a lot of ARs and wondering what is everyones thoughts. Would you prefer PSA 10s JP or just rather look through them in a binder? Someone convinved me to buy JP yesterday and I’m scared I might be addicted
Personally, I don’t like grading modern. 99.99% of the current supply is NM+, so the appeal is really about chasing a PSA 10. I prefer to keep my modern (English or Japanese) in binders.
Maybe my mind will change as sets become older and specific cards become more difficult to obtain in mint condition.
My opinion also doesn’t really matter at all. You should collect the way that you want to. If that includes grading modern and chasing PSA 10s, then you should absolutely do it.

Pretty sure it won’t ever happen lol. The PSA 9/10 pop reports for modern chase cards are already gargantuan without even factoring in the raw mint supply and what’s still left sealed. If people were sending cards en masse to be graded back in 2003, there would also be an oversupply of mint cards from that era. Like, imagine if the PSA 10 pop report for each ex was 5000 instead of 100 lol. If people handled cards properly back then, those cards would be worthless now.
I think a huge part of grading is also encapsulating your favorite artworks. Modern is filled with so many great arts that I can understand paying a premium (if in your budget) to grade your best and most liked cards for your personal collection. I mean to say that, the value of the card should not matter if you want to grade it for your personal goals.
I am a binder collector myself, but I can understand why someone would grade cheap cards for their own personal satisfaction / collection goals.
Cheers!
The pop reports are massive, but so is the demand. If specific cards increase in price despite extreme pop reports, I may be tempted to cash in.
Yes I agree. If you like it in a slab, grade it. There’s nothing wrong slabbing cheaper non-rare cards if you enjoy them. Slabbing is a good way to preserve the card’s condition as well.
I guess it depends on how you define modern. I’ve seen some upticks in pre-2020 Japanese sets and cards the past while. Stuff after 2020 though has a pretty massive supply because of all the hype.
It seems that more and more with modern, one of the few ways to stand out is a Black Label or CGC Perfect grade compared to a PSA 10. That’s one of the few things I’ve seen where you can get a real premium on a modern card in respect to grading.
