I was thinking of building my own PSA Card display case, since the only ones I can find are 36/50 cards and $150++. I’m wanting to display entire 150-200 card sets. So I came up with my own design and was curious if anyone has any input before I spent all the money on materials. The dimensions of a PSA card are approximately 3 3/16" x 5 3/8" x 1/4" thick.
After this you can spray/paint the whole thing to the color of your liking. Put pieces of wood on all the sides of the plywood and attach a 48"x96" piece of plexiglass to the front and voila. You have a 250 card display case from my estimation. All these dimensions of materials seem readily available at Lowes/Home Depot. Thoughts?
I would be conscious of the end weight and the pressure points on the structure. You’re probably going to hang it on a wall which would become more of a permanent fixture. I’m all for it and want to see the final product.
If you’re going to build it yourself, would you consider installing custom shelving? You’d lose the UV barrier with plexiglass. The cards would “be within reach” and it may appear better in the end. It could also depend on your living situation as well. Take a look:
Id be considering fixing in to the cement walls in my basement. The reason I don’t like normal shelves (as like the video has) are the cards lean back at an angle. With the ones I designed all the cards are held straight up and down. You are probably right that the plexiglass may not be necessary expense ($110 for a sheet that size). It would keep dust out though.
