Ever just lose something and have no idea where it is?
Recently I lost my Himeno artist binder #1 (PFM's Collection Thread - #4 by pfm - more completed than the old images suggest). Losing something like this comes with both financial and emotional pain. For months I was planning on how to replace it not looking forward to rebuying a lot of those cards that are 10x the price in raw.
But the other day I was at work and unlocked my desk drawer and it was in there oops.
I also just don’t know where my shining Gyarados is.
I feel like I have at least one brick hidden somewhere with decent holos and bulk, bits and pieces I haven’t seen in years. I did find that complete non-holo rare 1st ed Fossil set a few months ago in a binder, that one I’d forgotten about completely. Come to think of it, there’s probably more 1st ed Fossil around somewhere.
Not being able to find my childhood Base Set Zard was what spurred me to get back into collecting.
To this day I still can not find it (it is either somewhere in the pile of boxes in my parent’s, or I traded it away and forgot). But that loss lit a fire in me that is still burning to this day.
Not mine, but we lost a large box containing a vintage zapdos and japanese graded collection when moving. There was too much to fit in a uhaul and storage units, so the overflow went to company storage where it was buried by old files at the end of the year.
We had to pull files for an old project, and boom… zapdos collection. Terrible couple of months, and now people aren’t allowed to store their collection at my house just because they have kids.
Two things I’m currently hoping to find are my first ever Jungle Pikachu which can be seen pinned to the mantle with a thunbtack in a picture from my 6th Birthday (pretty sure it’s in my parents stuff in boxes of old pictures but may be gone forever), and I am certain that I have misplaced a Neo Discovery Umbreon somewhere in my office
Quite a few years ago I had lost a small pile of vending cards and BOXY cards. At the time nothing too valuable.
a few years later I was moving a dresser in my old room at my parents house and there they were on the ground.
Unfortunately, the FA BOXY Regirock pulled a PSA 9 and the Ooyamas Pikachu I gave away to a friend. So it want much of a win for me nowadays.
I wish I hadn’t found them yet haha
I don’t know if this counts. I sometimes intentionally “lose” cool stuff in random boxes for future me to discover. I don’t label the box and hide it away. After a few years I have absolutely no memory of said stuff. For example, I recently found this pretty neat box of Japanese decks
A lot of the cooler cards that I would take out of my binder and look at when I was a kid have been lost. I’ve lost a base zard gifted to me by a cousin and a gengar lv.x I had pulled myself, just to name a couple.
Although it may not look like it when you enter my work/hobby room, with the dozens of stacks of Pokémon cards scattered around on my desk; on boxes on the ground; on bookshelves; etc., I feel like I’m organized enough to not loose things that way. Don’t get me wrong, I do sometimes have the feeling I lost something - coincidentally happened earlier this week when I couldn’t find some of my sealed booster packs - but I usually find it a few hours later after looking at all possible places in my house (apparently they were in a drawer, since I had removed them from a binder a while ago).
One thing that does come to mind however: as a kid I once lost my Pidgeot and Furret cards one day. Pretty random to remember perhaps, but since I always liked the (Neo Genesis) Furret artwork, and the Pidgeot was from my very first trade at school, I noticed those cards were missing when re-organizing my binders as a 10 y.o. or so.
I was able to find the Pidgeot a month later underneath my closet, but never found the Furret. Although, this happened shortly after I had a neighboring girl over (foreshadowing).
A year later when playing with marbles at that neighbor’s place, I noticed one of my very distinct blue-painted marbles was missing. When looking for it, I found it in her plastic container. Basically, she stole it while I wasn’t looking, and at that moment I realized she likely stole my Furret card as well back then. After that I never played with those neighbor’s kids again.
Apart from that, I do have something similar as @trainerred661 happen every once in a while. I have a few boxes stored away in my closet, and barely look at them. While looking for something else the other day, I opened one of them, and was surprised to find a Thai Deck and Korean Fairy Rise booster box I forgot I had.
Copied this over from the cards that got away thread. It’s still mia. Maybe I’ll tear my house apart one more time…
When I was a kid I pulled a weird looking Pikachu from a 1st ed jungle pack. I was so upset I called the store I bought it from because it wasn’t supposed to be in the set and I spent my allowance on the pack. Of course they didn’t take a 10 yr old seriously and I was stuck with it
A few years ago I saw a video of someone pulling the same pika from a Jungle pack. I immediately went to my childhood binder and there it was. I took it out and put it in a top loader because I knew details about the origin would eventually emerge.
Sometime later I saw youtube video speculating on the origin which reminded me of it. I couldn’t find my copy at the time but I didn’t think anything of it because I knew it was in my house somewhere. Over the years I’ve torn my house apart multiple times looking for that pika to no avail.
I have no idea where it went but for the sake of my sanity I just tell myself it’s gone and accept that I’ll never know what happened to it. If only I just left it in my binder
when i was like 4 i lost my mom in the supermarket, was the worst 3 minutes of my life until a kind elderly lady saw me crying and led me toward the nearest middle-aged asian lady she could find
Usually I’m a pretty meticulous person so I don’t often straight up lose things, but I have this 10th anniversary Palkia figure that came with a small, clear figure of Ash to show scale. When I packed things up to go to college years ago, I could have sworn I put Palkia and Ash in a plastic baggie and then packed it away with all my other trinkets. However when I unpacked everything years later, he was no where to be found. He is still Ash-less.
When I was a child, I put my Pokemon binder on the back of my mom’s car to show my friend. We ended up leaving it there to go play games. Unfortunately, my mom drove off some time later without realizing that the binder was on the trunk. Eventually, it must have fallen off somewhere along her way. We searched all evening when she came home but couldn’t find it, probably because it was picked up by a lucky scavenger.
It was so upsetting to me that I gave up Pokemon card collecting for MTG and YGO. After all, that’s what all of the cool (older) kids were playing with, and I desperately wanted to be cool. Needless to say, I would commit unspeakable crimes to see that binder again. It contained many of my first Pokemon cards.
As an adult, part of my enjoyment of collecting is having meticulous organizing skills to prevent another lost binder situation. So far, so good.
Somewhere in the depths of my parents’ house (or attic) there is a shoebox filled with a booster box-worth of mint/nm Skyridge bulk and around 10-11 holos, although I know for sure there are no crystals. They deny it but I bloody well know my Skyridge shoebox is there. I stashed it in my wardrobe during 2nd year Uni summer break. They move stuff around but they never throw anything out, so there’s no reason they’d have thrown out that box specifically. I’m somewhat certain my mum read about Pokémon cards in Stylist then stole them to send to ACE grading to then sell on Vinted at 10% of market. I just can’t prove it yet
