PS: I heavily collected, and loved pokemon cards for most of my life - just like all of you, I played all of the games, and was as excited about Pokemon Go as anyone. So please get to know me, I’m easy to talk to, before posting negative comments in the discord chat. I understand it is the internet tho. I’m just saying tho, we can all have positive relationships instead:)
The one thing i’ve learned in my years of high-end cards, is to never be scared to reach out and make offers. The practice does work, and has gotten me some holy grails over the years. I started out just like smpratte, instead I made an early bet on collectibles in a different market.

Congrats!! Would you mind sharing with us which trophy card you acquired or are you going to leave us in suspense?
Also, I understand where you’re coming from. I think there was some talk on the E4 Discord of you trying to acquire cards you had only recently heard of, whereas often people go for trophies after spending years in the hobby. But here’s the thing - in your thread, you’re going after the top cards in the hobby. Clearly, one doesn’t need years in the hobby to identify the grails. It’s good to hear that these cards are going to someone who has loved Pokemon and not someone who is interested in them solely as an investment vehicle.
You’d be surprised with the number of people that are deeply interested in pokemon cards, but are not aware of the specifics of trophies and in some cases even the existence of them.
I knew of them, but truthfully, did not appreciate them at first. This forum thought me of the history, and then suddenly, they start looking more attractive. I came here to ask questions, and to learn more about them. I was quite surprised when someone showed me the discord messages - but again, I do understand its the internet.
I think I was of course quick to jump on wanting the best of the best trophies - it’s the same way I operated in 2017 when I came back to Pokemon w/ base set / fossil / jungle.
I do love and appreciate Pokemon, I have held some for years on years, while others, I’ve moved to members like Jon - to acquire other cards on my want list.
Everything goes back to cards anyways - cards are fun.
All in all, my point is - I understand I kind of barged in here with big asks, lets communicate … feel free to ask me any questions on my collecting goals / or even questions about sports cards. I will gladly share information on how to get the holy grails in sports
Congrats on the pick up! Don’t worry about the chirping. Most people will never own any of these cards so they are left with their opinions. And don’t feel pressured if you want to keep it a secret.
