The very best Pokémon collector is not defined by the amount invested or the sheer number of cards in their collection.

Collecting and success is not a zero sum game. The sooner you learn that, the happier you’ll be.

Jokes aside, focusing on a favorite Pokemon, like Dragonite, isn’t a terrible idea. If you want the “best” or rarest collection in the world, you need millions of dollars of capital at your disposal to even think about it in 2021.

But collecting all Dragonites ever printed, and having the best Dragonite collection in the world… it would take some serious dedication and not be cheap, but much more doable than having the overall rarest collection.

Then you could be the very best Dragonite collector, like no one ever was

Collect what you want, work towards collecting goals and you will automatically be the best

Your collection should always be the best in the world to you. I’ve found the best way to strive to be a Pokémon master is always one up yourself and keep trying to improve! Buy what you like and enjoy the hobby.

@yaghma, Hey! I’m supposed to be the arrogant new guy!

I’m trying to do the same as well, flip into an awesome collection. I’ve been using some AI/financial models to predict future prices on older sealed product to help me get the collection I want. Its been pretty effective. You’ll find the market is pretty inefficient when it comes to pricing anything or understanding inventory levels. Its an unsophisticated market with a lot of niche areas. You should be able to find a corner and flip/trade into a pretty nice collection. Best of luck!

Stop comparing yourself to other people and you’ll get by just fine in life.

I personally think my collection is better than Gary’s

Gary may have one of the best collections in the world but my Tropius collection is better than his

IMO you need more than every card of a species to claim to be the best, hence my Dragonite winning deck suggestion.

For example, while I am very proud of my Chansey collection, there are people with Chansey related accomplishments that greatly humble me. The first and second place winners of the 2000 Japan Nationals had their picture taken to be on a card WITH CHANSEY! And Kaori Someya, winner of the 1999 Snap Contest, literally brought a new Chansey card into existence! That is indisputably one of the greatest contribution to Chanseys a collector can ever do.
