@modestmudkip, Which gold stars? Is your set complete with Crystals and Reverse Holo Crystals?
Blanket statements like trophy cards are going to be a better investment than set cards is not necessarily true. Certain set cards will grow a lot faster than certain trophy cards. Plenty of set cards are up 5-10x in the last 5 years and now have little to no pop growth.

If you simply care about return on investment, then your answer is that they are likely comparable.
If they are giving you a few high-valued cards for a huge set, i am of the opinion that i prefer to downsize my collection so I have fewer higher valued items rather than a large quantity of low valued items. Remember, we try to âmove upâ with our collection, both in total value of our card values, as well as the value per card.
Anyhow, thatâs just to provide you with another angle. I rather have 10 cards worth 10k each than 10k cards worth 10 each. there is a difference when it comes time to sell and getting rid of them. itâs also easier to store on a day-to-day basis.

OP, your question was centered around Gold Stars versus Aquapolis PSA 10s for investment purposes. Many people are changing the topic of the thread making it a set card versus trophy card thread⌠Anyways, When people say invest, they mean to turn a profit over time.
I look at the history and Gold Stars are undoubtedly more âproven.â Your safest bet if youâre going that route is the Charizard. Itâs iconic.
That being said, just because Gold Stars are more proven and established, doesnât mean there isnât opportunity in Aquapolis PSA 10s. WOTC 10s are in the baby stage.
tldr: Gold Stars are immensely more popular, they have a proven history and are harder to pull. That being said, Gold Stars seem to be a better future investment.

My set has the crystals yes, no reverse holos just regular set. The gold stars donât include charizard or rayquaza (big bois)
I think I will keep my aquapolis set. I sorta like it better anyways and I built it myself which took me a few years to do
Itâs a bit of an odd comparison really. Plus completely different price points and rarity. Aquapolis prices are pretty low for your standard holos at the moment (the crystals are climbing a bit though). There is definitely room for growth and not much room for any sort of collapse, but gold stars have boomed. We are into unknown territory with the $10k Rayquaza but if history is anything to go by in this hobby itâs that there is always room for that price to get blown out of the water!
I would guess that Aquapolis will be a more steady investment, with slow growth and the occasional spike/drop, but gold stars could be more dynamic. Iâve noticed a bit of a stagnation of social media hype for gold stars over the last couple of months, but that could all change again soon.
As most people have said though - buy what you love. I donât care much for the gold star artwork and have no nostalgic attachment to it so I steer clear unless I see a deal I canât turn down! Aquapolis all the way for me.
