These prices only make sense to me if people are buying these cards as investments hoping to flip them for more in the future. I have a hard time believing people would pay 5-6 figures for a piece of cardboard just cause they are nostalgic about it or like Pokemon.

Perhaps gambling addiction is the worst thing afflicting the hobby. From people getting others to open their packs for them to whatever this is. It’s like speedrunning enshittification due to how lonely/addicted/depressed these people are.

So I’ve noticed a weird quirk with this listing and ebay solds. The seller had multiple copies of this card, but rather than create separate listings, opted to just list as an amount of stock (3 copies, 1 remaining).
A previous copy was sold back in Dec 2025 for a much lower amount, but the seller raised their price for the last remaining copy. What this seems to do however, is make the record of the earlier sale use the current listing value, making it seem as though the card sold for a much higher value than it actually did. I unfortunately did not take screenshots of the previous instances.
Now, I’m not pointing fingers at the seller for manipulating sales data, as this may be a glitch on ebay’s end. But it goes without saying why this could be a problem.

Unfortunately, that is a common tactic to help with market manipulation for sold prices. This is especially common in Terapeak where you see the “average sold price across multiple sales” for a single listing, rather than the actual sold price for each copy that sold in that single listing.

doesnt necessarily mean they have multiple copies, could be it “sold” but never got paid and then they just added +1 to the same listing which is prolly not a very good idea coz it might f up the auth
I distinctly remember being offered a dark zard for $1800 in 2021 (I think but maybe earlier) and being like…there’s so many of them that price seems wild lol

I don’t own one (sadly), just think there are enough people currently willing to pay 20k for cards (ponchos, mario, etc..) that cards like that aren’t going down below that anytime soon
