The Great “Pokemon Hidden In Card Art” Thread

I have already posted this in a different thread, but since I just linked this thread to someone, I figured I’d post the Seviper & Zangoose here as well:

In addition, the recent Eevee and Vaporeon is appropriate for this thread as well:

Love seeing the conjoined arts above, wow. I remember discovering this with Southern Islands as a kid and thinking it was kinda cool, but since the images were just horizontal triptychs they weren’t particularly dynamic. Seeing all the cards above that assemble in such interesting ways is so cool.

Completely agree. After just looking back at the post compiled by cracker within the spoiler tag of the top post on page 12 (here below for reference), I have yet another collection goal I want to pick up one day, rofl… :relieved:

Here another one. 009/T Croconaw and 007/T Bayleef T promos are overlapping. Not sure how 008/T Quilava is connected to them, but probably somewhere above the Croconaw based on the tree trunk direction.

I’m pretty sure all triplets of T promo cards are either telling a story or part of a bigger artwork. I wonder if we can find the larger artworks of these connected artworks somewhere like with some of the ones in the previous post.
Most T promos are already mentioned. And even though they’re not connected, I’m pretty sure the legendary birds form a larger artwork as well:

Yeah I think so as well. It would make sense for the whole picture to be released in the Trainer Magazines they came in, but I can’t say that for sure. If that’s the case and someone has them, pleeeease scan and post them here

The Quilava is indeed above the Croconaw in the full artwork. As I expected, the Quilava artwork is zoomed in to make the Quilava itself the same size as the Croconaw and Bayleef. Thanks for sharing the full artwork on Discord, @pkmnflyingmaster !

One of my favourite things is the McDonald’s P promos that have the same Pokemon/illustrator in a different pose between the promos and the expedition/aquapolis version of the artwork. I don’t know if there’s a good name for them, I just call them sibling cards.

Here’s some I don’t think I saw in this thread!

(I don’t know why my imgur links aren’t working, they’re scrafty from dark explorers, Hypno/clefairy from breakpoint, and Nosepass,Teddiursa, Skrelp from cosmic eclipse)

Oh, great seeing them all together like that! I knew about some of them (the Umbreon, Growlithe, Scizor, Donphan, and Pikachu of course), but I didn’t knew all of these pairs were made by the same artists. Seeing them side-by-side, you can definitely tell they’re made by the same illustrators.

I recently noticed they did something similar (albeit slightly different) with two Latios/Latias ex pairs of cards. Same illustrator, same Pokémon, same background in different perspectives. They’re slightly different than your ‘sibling cards’, since most of those have different backgrounds as well. ‘Perspective cards’ would be a proper definition I guess. The four ‘Change of Perspective’ cards in cracker’s screenshot I shared above are in that same category.

Woah, you’ve blown my mind with those two Pichu cards!

The rayquaza ex is from the emerald gift box is the same, the 2 deoxys ex from the same gift box do not have that though:

as for the dragon in different perspectives, here are the theater limited vs pack dragons:

Some pikachu from different perspectives: 048/dp-p and 057/dp-p in Japanese

The sizes of the images are a little wonky but I don’t know how to change that, so I hope it turns out fine.

Yeah, those Pikachu were also mentioned in the ‘Change of Perspective’ section here.

And even though I’ve seen those Rayquaza artworks a lot of times, I didn’t knew there were two of these toothless Rayquaza cards from different perspectives, rofl.

No hidden Pokemon, but interesting nonetheless:

Many of you might be familiar with Kizuki’s reference in Unified Minds (Miracle Twin) to her Abra from Team Rocket:

But did you know that in the same set, she made a second reference to one of her early works?

I wasn’t aware of that up until yesterday evening when I opened a Miracle Twin box for shits and giggles. I love these kind references for the OG collectors!

Actually, here is another one. Again, please forgive the lack of hidden Pokemon.

I certainly hope this still blows your mind as much as it did blow mine.

Take a close look at the background.

… see it?

I’m fairly certain that our boi Snorlax is laying in front of a real-life photo of a platter of fruit and vegetables!

I think I can identify grapes (1.), yellow bell pepper (2.), squash/carrot maybe? (3.) and perhaps some sort of kale or celery (4.)

It’s incredible how you can still sometimes find such stuff after months and years of looking at a card.

Gyarados and Starmie from Scramble/Rumble. You can see both perspectives. There’s also Pokémon in the background of a lot of the cards in this set. I also believe there’s a bigger picture that would go together for some of them shown in the ring.

I’ve tried to find the background on sozaijiten, of which the backgrounds are used in a lot of Ken Sugimori backgrounds (I know, this Snorlax is by a different illustrator), but I’m unfortunately unable to find those fruits/vegetables. I’ve skimmed through the first dozens of picture albums, as well as some fruit/vegetable specific volumes, but no images that has the yellow bell pepper with green grapes, or something that’s similar as the Snorlax background.

If anyone wants to look as well, the fruit/vegetable volumes are:

Really exciting discovery for me today, not a Pokemon hidden in the artwork but rather a city. My favourite set of all time is Aquapolis and I’m trying to collect everything linked with it.

Just discovered that Unbroken Bonds Growlithe is chilling in Aquapolis!

I just found out today that there is a Flareon hiding in the Eevee Heroes Umbreon V Alt Art 85/69. It’s kind of hidden by the text but it is in the middle of the pack, to the right of Pinsir.

Hi All,

I know it’s not POKEMON hidden in cards… but I’ve put together a master list of all cards where:

An English Pokemon card contains a human… Really excited to start getting this collection together! Will put up a collection page soon when I have more to show off, but I thought the list might be of interest to the people here. If anyone spots one that I’ve missed I’d love to know, any promos etc! Equally, I couldn’t find any in any early sets, I don’t think they did them?

EDIT - I have just found a cheeky Misty swimming with Tentacool from Gym Heroes…
