Anyone had any success preordering Pokémon Japan post stamp boxes
Fromjapan won’t process mine as it requires in person pick-up following the lottery

I think there is no hurry for this. According to the announcement, Wave 1 is 80,000 sets, and they will make more if there is demand.

It’s now been changed to 100,000 sets in the first wave.

My assumption is the only way for someone outside Japan to acquire these cards is to be willing to pay market price on Yahoo and Mercari from the Japanese folks who are willing to let it go after having it in hand.

Preordering this item is a useless “guarantee”.

I bought five of the Yu Nagaba Pikachus. Pretty decent price now. Pretty good release IMO.
Love the look of the stamp promos. I hope they aren’t a few hundred each out of the gate, but there’s probably a lot of eyes on them in the unprecedented time with many knowing how well the Munch Promos performed. This release definitely gives me scream promo vibes. I think the days of highly popular pikachu promos starting out at 20$ each are gone. :slightly_frowning_face:

Accessibility is also going to be different as it’s one box per person via postcard lottery/web lottery and then pickup in person (need verification) at a specific Japan Post office that you nominated. Unless you have friends in Japan, secondary market is likely going to be the only way for anyone outside Japan to get them.

One of my local reseller offers to help the community get these boxes, as his contact works in the Japan Post Office. He doesn’t require any deposit and earn about $10 per box (after deducting shipping). I got my family members and friends to sign up for 1 box each. No harm trying since there is no deposit required. He exceeded his quota within the day lol.

As far as my understanding there are three waves to participate in the stamp box lottery as per the details here: www.post.japanpost.jp/event/pokemon_stamp/index.html

Wave 1 - Apply at the International Stamp Exhibition being held in Yokohama between the 26th of July and the 8th of August.
Wave 2 - Apply at a local post office between the 22nd of August and September 10th.
Wave 3 - Apply online between the 1st of September and the 15th of September.

Unless this reseller’s contact is a regional postmaster who is willing to put his high-paying job on the line for a portion of that $10 per box, then I smell a scam.

Yup, we only signed up because he doesn’t require a deposit. Meanwhile, we have continued to look for other sources.

I’ve been watching M sachiko EX out of pure curiosity to see if someone would buy it. Guess 1/100 makes any card decent

Getting 0 SR in a box is not an error. That said, you’d have to be unlucky to get 0

I personally think that cards with amazing rarity are overvalued relative to the rest of the market. For $20k, I couldn’t stand looking at this thing. I’d prefer a Unikarp with supposed distribution of 10x, a deep history in the TCG, with reasonable popularity, and is old and hard to find mint now for the same price ANY DAY.

If Popularity, Age, and Rarity are the triangle by which a pokemon card’s value is determined, this sits in the far corner of rarity. Compared to other cards at that price, you can get much more balanced asset that has SOME popularity or SOME age. I generally feel this way about the illustration contest cards as well. Are they awesome? hell yea! Do I want one? Absolutely! If I had $50k to invest on pokemon cards would I put it there? not a chance

IMHO IF there is significant retracing in the Japanese pokemon world some day, I think these crazy rarity but unpopular cards will be the biggest offenders in losing significant value.

I disagree and to keep it very short, here is why: When a card is 1/100, it does not need to be “popular” or “old”. The demand doesn’t need to be extremely high either. With only 100 or less copies of a card like this or illustration contest existing, there will always be a market for it among the wealthy who prefer rarity above most else. It’s different with things like Masaki that have a nice balance. 80,000 copies but a ton of people wanting one and the grading being difficult is why you see the slabs sell for a nice chunk. A card like this doesnt have to worry about the slab or a hype train to push value.

For the m sachiko ex I would go out on a limb and say the type of people paying that type of money for it likely own things like a unikarp already. It may be horrific visually but with the low distribution numbers rarity certainly supersedes that in terms of people wanting it.

The line stop somewhere, though. Rarity requires SOME popularity; there are plenty of 1/100 pieces of artwork by no name artists that will never reach 2million yen. Hell I could draw a 1/1 picture for you and it would be more rare.

This card has rarity and “is a pokemon card” going for it  I don’t think anyone buying it really enjoys it. My argument is that I think relative to other cards in this price range, it’s over valued.

If you had $20,000 to spend would you buy this card over another card purely because it has 1/100 rarity?

The demand is almost entirely domestic. I think it’s a neat collectible.

I agree with you but from a different perspective. Id rather have Sachiko as it feels so much more unique than a non-holo Magikarp. University does have age on its side, but thats about all it does for me. Doesnt stop me from wanting it all the same.

I agree, I doubt It would fetch such a premium outside of Japan. Gives me Mr. Royale vibes where the japanese buylist speaks for itself.

Potential for arbitrage. For example, Master Scroll is cheaper in Japan than international Market, while The Masked Royal (Full Art) is the opposite. I don’t mind M Sachiko Ex if it’s not so creepy. I do like the uniqueness of the card, but I can’t imagine myself taking it out to admire every other day.
