Latest purchase. Very rare promo card that I’m super struggling to find information on. Tried to reach out to multiple people for info with nothing super concrete as of yet.
It’s from a kids magazine that released ahead of it’s official issue (Feb 2005), in December 2004 to promote the DVD release of the Deoxys movie in Japan. Supposedly this is how the magazines operate. The card came for free when a copy of magazine was purchased.

I wonder if this would pass the new eBay authentication process. The seller likely graded/bought a normal shining mew then sunfaded it in the PSA case. The assumption that the seller is trying to pass it off as a “rare variant” and not putting in the listing as SUN DAMAGED.
They are fun cards to own. But is it accurate to characterize them as “very rare”? Shogakuan’s Yochien magazine has one of the largest circulations among magazines of its kind. Tens of thousands of these cards would have been produced.
I guess they might be rare if very few survived. But given how many other Pokemon-related magazine inserts from 15 to 25 years ago are still around (and dirt cheap), I doubt these cards are an exception
@japanime, yeah it’s cool to have. I’d go as far to classify them as rare at least because no one has a scooby doo about them. I’ve asked people who have been in the “card game” way longer than me in terms of collecting and seeing things pop up, but other than getting “blanked” lol, they had no clue.

@zaettsu, I did some additional research, and the cards may indeed be rarer nowadays than I had guessed. I found about a half-dozen marketplace listings for them, and all had been sold. The lowest price was 1,999 yen, the highest was 4,000 yen.
This is why I love Pokemon ephemera even more than the TCG cards. There are just so many cool things that have been forgotten, overlooked, ignored, or simply thrown away long ago.
I grabbed a few a couple weeks ago at $115. Lowest I see on eBay now is $130, so the floor has definitely moved up. I know they had a pretty large reprint around February, but I’m curious to know too if any more reprints have been announced.
With the pulls you can get from this set including the Umbreon alt art #095, if they don’t have another reprint, I would expect the upward trend to continue.
@teraz , nice to know it had a reprint this year. I’m with ya. The chase cards are rare and all the alt arts are good. I think in 5 years when we look back on this era, the alt arts will stand out. And Eevee Heroes will be remembered as the set that did it best. Unless an upcoming set tops it, which is the risk of modern
Does Pokemon Japan even make an announcement when something is out of print? Is this distributor only information?
Japanese sets don’t get reprints unless theyre high class sets. So yes, its been out of print since the first print, as with every other Japanese set for about a decade.
100% different process than english. Larger, longer printing in japan vs lots of random smaller prints in english. This means in Japan they only have “one” print run.
The last time I was offered one it was ¥8M about two or three months ago, $69k at the time (nice). Maybe you could find for cheaper now with yen down bad and a few having sold, but I don’t know.
