Gotcha haha. Ya Iāve started to get bored with money discussions but it makes for a somewhat interesting read. Iāve found whether prices go up or down some people will never be happy and everyone wants to predict the future haha. Just be happy collecting Edit @smpratte your post made me think of how Rainbows disappear after a storm he seemed to always have a unhappy gloom cloud hovering over him trying to rain on our parades Iāve personally been ecstatic my collection is worth so much why wouldnāt you be haha
@dblast - nobody has responded to your last 5 posts. Try saying something enlightening or constructive in regards to the hobby we all enjoy. You may find your experience on the forum less exhausting
As a new member here, I must say Iām quite confused. I canāt tell if @dblast is a skillful troll or youāre all trolling him. Either way, itās pretty entertaining.
Also, I just saw the PWCC auction for the PSA 10 Rayquaza Gold Star. Two and a half days in, and its already over $13kā¦should be equally entertaining to watch.
On topic market question: So far many Japanese set cards, especially the ones of popular Pokemon species, have already tripeled or quadrupled in price. Do you think those are prime canditates for a retrace, once PSA operates on full capacity again? Will pack openings push the price down?
I also have thought about this. Just purchased some Japanese holos that appear minty, once they come in they will hopefully go to PSAā¦then in a few months be sold to fund my main collection goals. By the time it takes PSA to process anything sent out now, though, the market could already have retraced.
I guess to answer this question, we would need the data of how many of each individual Japanese holo have received high grades over the past couple years. This would give a baseline to predict if a substantial amount are being sent/will grade high over the coming months. Of course, this would only be pure speculation and to know for sure, weād have to wait a few months for the cards to actually be gradedā¦but by that time, if we hadnāt sent out our cards around this point in the present, it could be too late to reap any potential gains from selling, as weād have to wait another full cycle for the cards to be graded.
Now, if youāre talking about this from a buyerās perspectiveā¦weād still need the same aforementioned data, but since it is all pure speculation the only thing you can do is wait it out and buy when you feel it is right. You may get lucky and there may be a retrace (personally, I think there will be one for most Japanese set cards eventually - English is almost always preferred, and most Japanese set cards are only worth a substantial amount in PSA 10 anyway. Since they are so cheap in comparison to English, there really isnāt a need to be economical and buy lower grades). However, you might not get lucky and there might not be a retrace on some, even if the pop increases. Itās unpredictable, which is both scary and fun.
@enigma yeah I guess weāll just have to see. Facts are that booster packs are still fairly available, have a holo in every pack (jungle-neo 4) and are not that hard to grade. That could lead to a similar situation as after the 2017 boom, with massive increases in supply.
On the other hand, maybe Japanese collecting gets more established with English being out of reach for many and therefore the higher demand eats up the larger supply.
