The Giant English Market Thread

About time it got some traction. UK/4th Print sat for years with no movement. Might as well have been Base Set Unlimited.

It was only a matter of time before people started finding out about it, and it actually is unique because the color of the cards is noticeably different. I’d venture to say it’s the most difficult English Base Set variant to find, too.

I roll my eyes everytime I hear this take.

Based on the high price of cards, it’s natural to speculate. It’s also natural to just collect.

It gets old fast hearing people blame “investor” groups or “whales”, when in reality it’s just many seperate individuals identifying the same patterns and opportunities.

That’s true, point taken.

I guess I’d revise my observation to be more that much of the demand is just hype/fomo driven rather than naturally created by collector interest (hence the often very sudden price spikes). And that these hype spikes are often driven by, like you said, several or many people identifying certain patterns/tendencies/etc., rather than other less financially driven motives.

I’m not really saying anything novel or unique though here, though. And I’m not disagreeing with your take. Everyone likes, to some extent or another, to see their collection value appreciate.

I also really like the 4th print  . I’ve been collecting unlimited variants for a while. My favourite was the black dot error Charizard (it also had some slight holo bleed). Unfortunatly had to sell everything :frowning: .
