It was definitely the purest time!

Around 2008 one of my high school friends found a sealed base set box his parents had kept. Without thinking much of it, he just decided to open it and give away one pack each to a few of his friends. Money was never even a consideration. It was purely just a hit of nostalgia and nothing else.

Secret Santa 09 would be about $50000 today.

I remember watching a 1st Ed Base box end at 1k. Also Gary had a full 103 PSA 10 1st Ed base set sitting on ebay for 10k.

Guys stop, it hurts thinking about how cheap things used to be :sob:

I remember buying so many WOTC loose packs to open in 2012-2013 for the same price as modern packs….

As someone who stopped collecting 20 years ago and only came back to the hobby this year, I approve this message

Over the years I’ve both sent and received mid to high 4-figure cards in Secret Santa. Of course they weren’t worth that at the time, but pretty insane to look back on some of the things we gave away to other collectors for fun!

Yesterday I looked up the card I purchased for my recipient last year. My goodness what a difference a year can make  . My first thought was ‘man I bet some wild stuff was exchanged 10+ years ago’. Do you have any fun examples to share?

I sent someone a PSA 10 shiny English M Gengar EX, I think I bought it for less than $20. Today it’s worth $6-7k! I also received a PSA 10 Reshiram Full Art from Black & White which is about 3k now. Still have it of course.

Why is this card listed for nearly 1 million USD? At first I assumed it was a joke listing, but the seller is PSA itself. I always thought PSA was a reputable company and wouldn’t post something that looks like a joke. What’s going on here?

I think that’s actually a mistake. This card should be listed at 9 mil. They forgot a 0 at the end.

That is a vault listing, meaning its individuals selling through PSA’s vault service.

It at least has best offer on. Maybe they’ll take 750k

Its a huge huge misconception right now amongst the community that the cards on the PSA ebay are actually PSA’s own cards. They aren’t, its community members selling their cards (and setting their own prices) via the PSA Vault

This is a really important piece of information! Thanks!!
