People want Pokémon to grow but only the way they want. If Pokémon grows differently or experiences growing pains, it’s a crisis and the people to blame are the ones who work to share it? That’s just biting the hand that feeds you, and shows how much the fan base still needs to mature.

Are some people priced out of some vintage Pokémon cards? Yes. Are some people priced out of some modern Pokémon cards? Also yes. Is collecting inaccessible now? Absolutely not. There’s so much average buyers and collectors can afford if they look beyond the hottest cards, and this still purely is a luxury good. Everyone forgets how inessential Pokémon is, because it’s such a big part of our lives, but it’s purely a luxury.

I love playing the TCG, but not everyone needs to enjoy the TCG the same way. Not everyone wants to devote hours to competitive content and practice, and if you aren’t interested in that aspect, competitive content isn’t entertaining at all compared to opening packs.

The video was well made but her points fell flat for me. I get that growth can be frustrating if you aren’t ready, but we can either adapt or leave.

In addition, no one has to collect modern product. I hugely enjoy the hobby and haven’t touched modern. There are plenty of ways to collect Pokemon cards that don’t involve buying inflated modern product. People need to remember that there are 22 years of Pokemon cards to collect; there’s no need to only collect the latest set.

25 years of pokemon, 22 years of inflated english pokemon

Awesome video and spot on. Gives more insight of the casual collector and average normal person.
Another good thing is that several videos from other content creators followed this (danny phantump, card n all gaming, etc).

This is a nice step forward of the community getting together and acknowledge all the messed up things going on.

If anyone needs a palate cleanser and a pick-me-up, I HIGHLY recommend Rusty’s videos. The man has built a platform on wholesomeness.

How about positivity? Do you guys like watching TCG videos? Personally I don’t and have never played the tcg, but I really enjoy watching Andrew on Tricky Gym play mostly the PTCGo, he’s dome some really off meta decks and the videos are edited well from his streams to trim down to the good matches

The other 98% of her videos are very wholesome, you can watch those.

To share someone enjoying pokemom, Here is a fantastic video on Pokémon Red & Blue:

there’s an emote somewhere on discord of Kermit the frog snorting a Pokémon card and that is how I feel about Rusty’s videos: soothing and addictive

Rusty is the Malcom Reed of Pokemon.

If you don’t know who that is, go find his youtube channel and thank me later

There are a million and one ways you can enjoy collecting Pokemon cards, so getting all dramatic and emotional because you cant “open packs” (aka gambling) for stuff which will be mass printed to oblivion just seems super weird to me.

Personally, I have been filling out my binder with cheap, but rough Japanese vintage. Looks fantastic and makes me feel great every day. I also love hearing from the high end collectors even though they are playing in a different league to me.

I couldn’t make it through her video. Enjoy your hobbies, folks.

Charizard confirmed a million in a year

Thanks for this link. Just spent 3 hours watching all three of his retrospectives (R&B, G&S, R&S) and they are fantastic.
But to add my input on the video that started this whole convo, she puts too much emphasis on tcg players not being able to buy packs. From my experiences when I actually played, most players did not have the capital to buy packs and pay for cards to keep up with the meta. It has been many years and this could obviously have changed but to me she was beating a dead horse by constantly throwing the “players need to buy packs” down our throats. To me she just doesnt address the real root of the issue at hand. The pandemic has made it difficult for TPC to keep up with demand and until the pandemic is over, odds are not much will change.

I came here to see if a certain TCG players honest opinion on the hostility in the hobby was met with hostility and made a bunch of grown men upset.

I was not disappointed. Never change E4.

I couldn’t make it past the intro. I just don’t get the whole woe is me mentality. People act like the only way to collect is to waste money buying modern packs, when there’s such a vast opportunity to expand your collecting knowledge in Pokemon.

Who is upset? This is such a mild conversation. People are rationally stating their opinion on both sides.

After the nice intro when it pivots to a grand conspiracy about children no longer having access to cards because grown men collect them. It’s silly innacurate information akin to propaganda. It’s like a FOX NEWS spin on a progressive topic. Only in this case it’s a TCG player mad at TCG collectors. The fact of the matter is that these cards are still being printed and distributed. There is a global pandemic going on and rather than rationalizing how it’s effecting the market, she’s pointing the blame at scalpers and collectors for perceiving value in cards. This is a 25 year old hobby and no one has a right to gate-keep it, determine what cards should be worth, or who should be buying. An open and free market decides these things. To be fair, she doesn’t know any better. People get irrationally emotional over things like this and I don’t blame her. The same thing happened to sports card collectors, coin collectors, art collectors, historical artifact collectors, book collectors, and so forth. They hate when demand causes an uprising in prices when they are still building out their collections. It is what it is. The market does not care about a collectors feelings. If you can’t afford something, earn more money. That’s literally all there is to it. Trying to demonize others is just a human-nature, me-vs-them coping mechanism.
