Good memory, it was both lol
Like someone else said in a related thread, if you havenât care for new generations and their gimmicks in a long time, you wonât like the SARs, as beautiful as they could have been without hats.
Different strokes for different folks, but at least the reverses are pretty I guess.
I like them. Yes the hats look corny but if you look at the cards in the context of ring pop hat, they do look good
Iâm not excited Tera designs, yet pokemon is doing well. Itâs ok for both to be true. Pokemon is so big there is no general consensus.
Is this a thing? Are they significant to pokemon or have longevity as pokemon presenters?
Bring back e-readers!
I joke but maybe they can incorporate a one off qr code like the ones in the packs to receive a digital version of the card on Pokémon Pocket or something.
Itâs fine if people like them of course and healthy sales are a positive. I just have a hard time believing people are looking at these cards and finding them interesting without a bunch of content creators hyping them up to keep their own businesses going.
Reverse pattern excepted. That part is pretty nice.
But hey, to each his own, especially with trading cards.
I donât think itâs a hot take to say that even for big Eevee or big modern fans, the set artwork isnât exactly top 10 level.
Itâs a sequel to evolving skies, it had built in hype before we even knew what the cards looked like. Itâs more dangerous than evolving skies because itâs coming out the gates at 2-3x MSRP.
Itâs giving me shining fates or paldean fates vibes. Just an easy and obvious cash grab to capitalize on the immensely successful predecessor. Slowly losing what makes it special with each rerelease. Maybe itâll take 2 or 3 more Eevee sets before the prices reflect that though
I agree! I remember when Hidden Fates dropped, it was crazy seeing all those full art shiny cards. Vstar universe had a similar vibe, and of course 151. Iâm still waiting for a mostly AR/SAR special set. The tera form gives me xy break vibes.
You heard it here first, @wisewailmer predicts a fail in a modern set! Time to go all in on it!
Thatâs usually about right
Several of the SAR are among my all-time favorite, like this one
I like the Ursaluna, Roaring Moon, and Palafin a lot as well.
But I donât think this one will fail. The hype is too high. Cards could all be skibidi toilets at this point
I guess if you want a hot take I can supply one:
In our current market, card artwork is irrelevant, if YouTube decides itâs a good set it will stonk
I know Odagiri Nana and Raichumkw have been doing both YouTube channel and panel commentary for Champions League & Worlds the past couple years, this is the first time Iâve seen a card signing giveaway campaign
Another hot take: There are enough fans of Eeveelutions, the new artwork, new Pokémon and Scarlet & Violet era overall that make the Tera/Stellar crown themes irrelevant. Eevee Heroes & Evolving Skies showed exactly that with the GMAX gimmick, no one paid attention to its size or the red cloud halo above its head as long as the execution is popular. The difference is most obviously going to be supply
Eevee is now > Charizard
(Iâm just happy my milotic and altaria cards got the proper alt art treatment. Now if theyâd just drop a bit I can buy a binders page full lol)
My hot take:
Just because you and the small group of hardcore collectors on e4 arent huge fans of the way tera pokemon cards look, it doesnt mean you should doom out and jump straight to a âno one actually likes the pokemon cards and its all a big money making scheme driven by youtubers and hypebeastsâ narrative. Maybe people just like the cards and/ or arent that bothered by the ring pop head.
I used to think it was silly but i find myself caring less as time goes on. Honestly, since i started playing the TCG, i have actually started liking it more. Charizard ex tera looks cool (the standard art, the gold card and to a lesser extent the full art are genuinely ugly ). I like dragapult and teal mask ogerpon too. These look pretty badass imo
I would say that the general collector would agree that the hats are a net-negative aesthetic and the cards would be better without them. That said, I also bet the general collector that doesnât spend every day on a pokemon card forum has a less strong opinion on this overall or doesnât even think about it.
The takeaway should be that really it doesnât matter what other people think when it comes to cards you like. If you like the cheese hats then thatâs great.
Next Pokémon generation gimmick will be neckbeards.
