Tagging Social Media Handles on eBay

Just wondering, if I tag my Instagram and Efour usernames in the eBay seller “Say something about yourself” text box, will eBay see that as me trying to circumvent eBay and flag my account? I’ve seen a few other sellers do it so I’m thinking it’s fine, but I figured I should double check here just in case they’re likely to freeze my account or put me in eBay jail or something. Thanks to anyone with some insight on this!

It would be risky to do so outright but I hear the eBay bots are pretty gullible. I’d put something like " my I.nstag/ram name is willyboy". I don’t do it personally because I want to appear more professional on eBay.

Okay gotcha, yeah maybe I just won’t then. I’ve seen people just straight up put “IG: insert_username”, but if there’s a decent chance that they’ll flag my account then it’s probably not worth the risk.

Why not just call their customer service # and ask a rep?

I’ve seen people embed their IG handed in the pictures, that might be a safer way to circumvent.

I think an important question you need to ask yourself is: Why would anyone on eBay care what your Instagram handle is?
If you want people to reach out to you on eBay to make deals, make sure your eBay and Instagram handles are the same (or very similar), that way if people want to get a cheaper deal they can simply Google your eBay name and will find your Instagram account from that.

“How can I use eBay as a free advertising platform to get sales without paying them any money, and do you think they’ll mind?”

Its obviously going to be a little bit of a problem if you try to circumvent ebay. One thing I can say is creating a brand around your product. I know I can reach out to people like TCA Gaming or Smpratte outside of ebay cause they are so big. Might be worth creating social media around it on every platform and try to push it there for people to start to get to know you.

I bet eBay monitors pictures just as much.

At the Dutch equivalent of Craigslist, you couldn’t post a picture of a concert ticket because the website of the promotor was mentioned on it and the picture got flagged automatically. This was already happening over 10 years ago.

And last time I checked, eBay had pretty strict rules in general about the use of pictures. After all, it’s in eBay’s best interest to keep people on eBay.

I stopped having the same username since I never actually got anyone looking to circumvent fees messaging me on instagram. Only lowballs less than 60% my asking price.

Edit: Just a warning. I also admittedly do the same thing to sellers who leave their IG XD.

i have been selling on ebay for ~3 years and i am currently a top rated seller. i have never had an issue with having insta/ e4 links on my page. ebay doesn’t cares unless you are blatantly trying to circumvent them. e4/ insta are not primarily used as seller sites.
