Spyder's RAW Surfing Pikachu Promo Collection

Well this is the new thread for my collection as my original plan was a failure. I plan to keep as many RAW for as long as possible. Eventually i will scan them all and categorize by possible PSA GRADE outcomes but i await that day for now. During a 1 month time frame i have collected this so far.

These are:
-1997 japanese promo surfing pikachu glossy
-And-
-1997 japanese promo surfing pikachu mt. Fuji JR stamp rally non glossy

Scans (Read below to help quality of scans possibly)of “Top 3” for grading:

Thank you @D3F14NC3 , i will eventually post big batches of scans with a black paper background to easily search out the possibly higher grading ones on the forum to get PSA graded. I had planned to scan them all even bought the scanner but theyre mostly coming from japan so wait times can be random. Its much cleaner this way. Surfs up!

I had a question about another surfing card. These are exactly the same cards right, probably only the lighting which is different?

I really find your enthusiasm for curating and documenting the whole process very fascinating. I am also truly invested in what you can achieve and would like to see the results. The cards you have displayed look really amazing, specially the binder full of the surfers.

Do you have a condition threshold on what you will send for grading? Are will you send everything regardless of the condition? I know your original plan was to only send 10 worthy copies, but has that plan changed?

Looking forward to this thread whenever you have new updates. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

They same to be the same according to the psa labels. Lighting might be different or slab might be scanned. Regardless, those are cool surfing pikachus as well, and in 10s!

Ah thanks for your interest in this idea @mrbubbles .

This is one of the iconic cards in japanese promo history as we all know japan loves pikachu, well who doesn’t! These would be the 2nd release of pikachu promos excluding rare variants of the 1st (ivy). The difference is there is only 1 variant of this card in the same year and it is not a corrected version variant.

Meaning there may be 3 variants of japanese ivy, 2 being corrected versions. All coming from corocoro magazines.

The ones im focusing on (surfing) are from 1997 but from 2 different promo releases. 1 for the japan train rally and 1 from corocoro magazine. As the train one is more rare in terms of scarcity, i will collect those when i can. I will mainly be focused on surfing pikachu glossy.

As it is not yet scarce enough i will curate them for a long time. Making them scarce and thus increasing the value. If you look at a site called tcgfish you will see this card scores almost 100/100 in all categories except for scarcity. So this is a collection and an investment for me.

I will scan them all later and prioritize batches that are deemed worth categorizing them by rank opposed to an official grade. Then send about 10-20 in of the highest ranks to get graded in hopes of a 10. Selling has been undecided.

Added some scans but they seem a little off with lighting on the edges as I look directly at these 3 cards i do no see this much whitening at all. Any help with scanning practices for avoid this “reflective glare” would be highly appreciated! Thanks

As it is quite hard to find good copies of these nowadays ungraded, i will be sending the middle one of the scans in as a tester. After close inspection i see the scanner reflects lightly from the left side and leaves a shadow on the right, so i will be weary of this in the future. But behold! The scanner does not lie!~
