Sleeves, Team Bags and General Protection

Well now that you mention it, you could be totally right.

I thought we were talking about the sleeves for just the raw card too. The only way I seel my raw cards is with clear deck protector then a sleeve over the top to seal it. I wouldnt use Perfect fit or anything thats to tight, because this would warp the card and I like to keep my stuff gem mint. I kept stuff like this for ages and most of it all got 10’s when I started grading cards. Those sealable sleeve thngies for raw cards dont look too tight though, but I have never used them and I only seen the videos.

I hope its ok to post this here.

I’ve looking a long time for some to protect my graded booster pack cases in.
I currently bought many bags over a few months but they have too wide or to narrow.

Today i got these bags from eBay and OMG!! They were the perfect width but then i found that they were just slight short, i was unable to seal the bag. All i need was about 2" extra in length :slightly_frowning_face:

But they worked pretty nicely for my sealed decks

So the search continues to find a taller bag for the graded booster packs.

Perfect fit sleeves such as the ones made by KMC are a snug fit sure, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to remove a card from one. I would say it’s no harder than how difficult taking a penny sleeved card out of a toploader can be sometimes; you just gotta exercise the same care and precaution and the card should be fine.

Yeah I received a ton of cards in them a while back, it’s not impossible to remove them but it takes a lot of time and I think the risk is greater. I just use the standard premium sleeves.

Amen. Some are way too tight.

There’s also varying degrees of quality among different brands of perfect fit sleeves. I do believe it’s generally accepted that KMC is the gold standard in this regard; other brand “perfect fit” sleeves such as the ones from Ultra Pro are known to have consistency issues which does then indeed risk damage to your cards in the form of bending and edgewear. (As an extension of that, KMC sleeves in general are hands down the best quality sleeves I’ve ever used.) In my opinion, if you aren’t into grading cards and are going for a binder kind of setup, double sleeving cards and then putting them into pages offers some of the best protection and appearance for presentation possible.

I have to say I cringed when I heard wake run collapse used perfect fit sleeves for his personal collection… All I could think of was pressure and damage on the card, are you sure KMC perfect fit won’t damage the card? I will always use Clear deck protectors, then a regular sleeve over the top, then into toploader, and then into toploader binder… Can’t beat it, but I’d like to try these KMC perfect fit for some cards in a Ultra pro pro binder normal binder thingy… Will See how we go…

I personally am willing to swear by the quality of these sleeves. To address your concern, the perfect fits aren’t tight to the point where you’d be struggling to get a card into the sleeve. Using a regular sleeve and then a deck protector (sleeves for sleeves) on top of that could be a viable alternative, but I’m not sure as to whether or not that would fit into a binder page slot. I’m looking at some of my double sleeved cards in my Pro-Binders and that is already a fairly snug fit. As another example, I also use toploading Ultra Pro Platinum pages for scanning cards and I can say for sure that deck protectors would not fit in those slots.

That being said, I view this setup as a pretty permanent archival sort of thing; I certainly wouldn’t recommend sending in PSA submissions with cards in perfect fit sleeves. Once stored in this way, I don’t think cards are meant to be taken out with any degree of regularity as haphazard removal could definitely result in damage. All of my cards might as well be in PSA slabs; they will never be exposed to the air again.

It’s interesting to hear about how everyone stores cards.
Currently my most valuable cards are in sleeves then toploader then team bags but i mite give the deck protector on top of that a try (Not that i think i need it, even sitting in single sleeves binders cards hold up pretty well as long as ur not moving them around all the time).

yup i do the same as you snap, anything extra would be over kill in my opinion, not that over kill in protection is a bad thing though, right?

I penny sleeve and topload all the ~$5-$50 cards, ultra pro binder the nm/m collection cards that are cheap, PSA slab the very valuable cards.

All PSA slabs go into a liberty “safe” (“residential security container” is the actual appropriate term, not just a little burglar convenience box, but not a true “safe”) as well as some of the better binders. I get worried looking at some of the collection threads thinking that half or more of these are probably sitting in peoples closets / on a random shelf / somewhere easily stolen in a break-in and most certainly lost in a house fire. Anyone else have a nice fire safe to store all their nice stuff in. They cost less than the single most valuable card of most peoples collections here.

Mine would burn in a heartbeat. I do have my collection insured though.

What does that cost? Before I had the safe, I thought about getting insurance before… Like 1-2% per year of total insured value roughly if I recall? A bad bad fire could still roast my stuff in there, but I would be sure to tell the firemen to run the super soaker right on it to keep it from getting too hot. Plus I really don’t have nearly the $ amount of a lot of people here.

I wonder if PSA would stand by their grade if the slab melted… “Well its still sealed!” I would say.

No idea individually, i lump it in as an extra with contents insurance.

I’ll have to check it out again. Last time I looked I was a renter and I want to say it was a flat ~2% of insured value which seemed way too high. Now that I have home/auto/life all bundled with one provider it should be a much better deal.

The company is based in Canada.

Yea I know i ordered 70 psa sleeves finally about 5 days ago.

Include this in your homeowner’s insurance or your renters insurance. Just make sure your policy includes this type of property. Specific collectible insurance will run a bit higher. It’s easier to bunch everything together. Assuring the cards are including in the policy is #1 though. Good luck!

I like this post. Except I’ll put bulk in 3000 - 5000 ct “shoe boxes” if that’s the right term. It keeps the cards separated and in decent shape for the most part.

I store extra PSA cards in 2 row “shoe boxes” of 100 cards per box. Cards I plan on keeping are stored in a four row case. I found these on another UPCCC post linking to an eBay sale from the manufacturer. The cases were like $25 a piece if you bought 2 - free shipping. They get the deed done.
