Hello everyone, I bought this Shining Gyarados raw a few years ago and got it graded myself. I keep going back and forth on whether it is actually a double holo error or not and would appreciate some feedback from the community!

Imo it is, still this variant only really shines in scanned images. Irl it looks almost the same.

I’m a serious Gyarados collector but that’s the main reason I haven’t gone for one of these. I’ve seen a couple at card shows and it’s really hard to tell the difference in person. They shine way more in scans.

Yours is a double holo, yes. The trick to telling Shining Gyarados apart is the cloud pattern; the double holo version will only have two small strips visible. I’ll attach photos to demonstrate.

You should go for the “coin” error double holo as I did. Imo it’s the only one worth it. I take it as a more appealing variant

Yeah it is a darker holo so it doesn’t stand out as much as the other neo double holos. It’s just ironic because I wasn’t specifically looking for a double holo when I bought it I just thought the holo pattern looked good on this one.

Thanks for the reply, I’ve seen this comparison before on here and it’s great. I just wanted to verify since I kept second guessing myself on whether it was or not.

It can be hard to tell without good lighting, but if you use your phone flashlight it should help. The holo is definitely more pronounced with light directly on it.
Well only for the PSA new label these are getting a premium, so you were lucky!

I checked a lot of double holos both 1st ed and unl. This variant seems to only exist in the unl double holo. Not on 1st ed or regular unl version.

Awesome thanks for the pics. I just looked at mine (double holo) and it doesn’t appear to have the coin error. Oh well!
