CHINESE ALL STARS & DREAMS COME TRUE SECRET RARES****(CHAPTER 4 OF GX ULTRA SHINY SHINIES COLLECTION)****
Memory Capsule:
This is the fourth installment of my multi-language 83 GX Ultra Shiny/Hidden Fates shinies collection, after English, Korean and Japanese. This is the third language I completed after Japanese and Korean and I decided to pick up all 99 secret rares from the first two Chinese Sun & Moon twin sets. The majority of the Chinese secret rares are from GX Ultra Shiny, so I view these sets as the Chinese counterpart to GX Ultra Shiny.

Here are the breakdown of the secret rares:

Set name Set # # of secret rares
All Stars Collection Set A AC1a 24 - 2 supporters, 7 baby shinies, 13 shiny GX, 2 gold cards
All Stars Collection Set B AC1b 24 - 1 supporter, 9 baby shinies, 10 shiny GX, 4 gold cards
Dreams Come True Collection Set A AC2a 26 - 2 supporters, 15 baby shinies, 7 shiny GX, 2 gold cards
Dreams Come True Collection Set B AC2b 25 - 2 supporters, 14 baby shinies, 8 shiny GX, 1 gold card

There are 7 supporters between these sets, and 3 of them include arts/illustrations of Acerola, Guzma and Lillie from the Japanese Extra Battle Day Promos. As I can’t afford the Japanese promos, it is pretty nice to get the arts through these cheaper cards.

There are 9 gold cards in these sets, which cover the 4 gold Tapus and the Solgaleo/Lunala/Ultra Necrozma gold cards.

The 83 shiny cards make up the remaining secret rares. I love the holo border for the baby shinies - these small aesthetic details make each of the language I owned unique and have separate identities from one another.

Collection Parameter:

99 secret rares from Chinese Sets (AC1a | AC1b | AC2a | AC2b):

  • 83 shinies
  • 7 full art supporters
  • 9 gold cards

You can refer to the set list here and here.

4 LANGUAGES | 332 HIDDEN FATES/GX ULTRA SHINIES****(CHAPTER 5 OF GX ULTRA SHINY SHINIES COLLECTION: RECAP)****
Memory Capsule:
This is the recap of my GX Ultra Shiny/Hidden Fates shinies collection in Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English. From the date the set was released in Japanese (2 November 2018) to the date I picked up the last card - an English Silvally GX (May 2021), it took me 2.5 years to piece together all 332 cards. When I rejoined the hobby, I never imagine I would collect Chinese and Korean Pokemon cards and yet here we are. This set is pretty special as it allows me to experience opening products for a shiny set live and in different languages. Besides collecting cards from my childhood and the past (ie. Base Set, δ Delta Species etc), I am also hoping to make new memories with the relatively newer/modern sets - this set certainly did so for me.

To minimise cluttering, I am going to end with some photos of the popular Pokemon and leave the collection album at the bottom.

Collection Parameter:

332 GX Ultra Shiny/Hidden Fates shinies in 4 languages:

  • 83 Japanese GX Ultra Shiny shinies (completed 1st half, 2019)
  • 83 Korean GX Ultra Shiny shinies (completed 2nd half, 2019)
  • 83 Chinese shinies from AC1a | AC1b | AC2a | AC2b sets (completed 1st half, 2020)
  • 83 English Hidden Fates shinies (completed 1st half, 2021)

Just a quick update since I’ve been very busy. Also, being a multi-language collector has been pretty brutal recently since there are so many cards to collect.

Anyway, managed to snag a Korean Video Tape set, a sealed Korean Celebi V alternate art promo and couldn’t resist getting some Korean 25th anniversary cards for my personal collection.

Picked up Indonesian Gramedia promos as well. Personally love the Grookey and Rockruff arts!

Bought some booster boxes and deck as well with the intention of opening the booster boxes. So far, managed to pull the Indonesian Flareon V alternate art to go with my Thai Espeon V card that I pulled. Pretty sweet cards for my collection. Hopefully will pull the golden Mew when I open my Japanese and Korean booster boxes.

Man, you have a hell of a collection. I was looking into completing these two sets myself (CHINESE ALL STARS & DREAMS COME TRUE). Any call outs for expensive cards to watch, or things that were particularly hard to find? I know Lillie is probably the heaviest hitter in this set.

Love the Korean 25th cards, might have to look into getting some of those myself.

@c0ll3ct0r , thank you. Yeah, personally happy that they re-printed the Umbreon Gold Star. Good luck with picking the Korean cards up!

@davie , thanks man! Happy to e-meet another collector of Chinese Pokemon cards. My collection strategy is pretty mechanical for these sets with huge amount of “secret rares”: Open a couple of boxes and hopefully pull the expensive ones, and fill in the blanks by buying singles. To address your questions, based on my experience opening a couple boxes, the gold cards (“UR rarity”) are pretty hard to pull compared to the other rarities. Personally, did not manage to pull them from my booster boxes.

As for cards to watch, as much as I would like to think all Pokemon cards are equal, some cards are more popular than others so these cards do command a certain premium/tax. These are some of the cards that I think you should look out for, in order of priority:

  1. Charizard GX - lucky to be able to pull it from my booster box. In my opinion, it is the heaviest hitter and the limiting factor to complete these sets. Suggest you to get a hold of this card first before even attempting to obtain the other cards.

  2. Female Full Art Supporters - both Lillie cards and Acerola are the pricier ones. The Battle Day Lillie would be the other heavy hitter.

  3. Gold cards - I would prioritise getting Tapu Lele GX and Solgaleo GX (AC1b).

  4. Popular shiny GXs - I would put Zororark, Umbreon, Mewtwo, Espeon, Sylveon, Gardevoir, Rayquaza as higher priorities than the rest.

The other cards should be manageable. Best wishes with completing them and do share photos once you complete the sets!

ENGLISH COUNTDOWN CALENDAR PROMO COLLECTION
Memory Capsule:
Bought these cards a few years ago and thought that this is the appropriate month to showcase them. I remember it was pretty easy to purchase most of the cards for about a few bucks each. The only trouble I have is for the Glaceon, Munchlax and Pikachu. Pretty cool collection. Anyway, best wishes and Merry Christmas in advance everyone!

And I finally pick up my first and second Thai (full art) Competition Promo from the Thai Charizard tournaments, Charizard V and (shiny) Charizard GX.

With these Thai Competition cards, I finally own at least one (full art?) Competition Promo from the 5 different Asian languages. Pretty cool collecting milestone for me to achieve. Here are all of them together!

KOREAN MOVIE PACK PROMOS
Memory Capsule/Collection Parameter/Collection Gallery:

My Korean package arrived recently and it is Good Friday holiday, so I thought it would be a good time to do a simple write up on my Korean movie promo collection. Where possible, I collect most of them in sealed/unopened form. I think it is pretty cool to have unique Korean movie pack arts (starting from M16) and it is not merely a transparent white packaging.

For the BW era, there are 4 movie related BW promo cards in my collection:

  • Reshiram (019/BW) released in Dec 2011 for Black—Victini and Reshiram (M14)
  • Zekrom (020/BW) released in Dec 2011 for White—Victini and Zekrom (M14)
  • Keldeo (048/BW) released in Dec 2012 for Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice (M15)
  • Genesect (064/BW) released in Jan 2014 for Genesect and the Legend Awakened (M16)

For the XY era, there are 6 XY-P promo cards from the 4 movie releases:

  • Diancie (029/XY-P) released in Jan 2015 for Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction (M17)
  • Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip and Manaphy (070-073/XY-P) released in Jul 2015 for Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea (M9)
  • Hoopa (102/XY-P) released in Dec 2015 for Hoopa and the Clash of Ages (M18)
  • Ash-Greninja EX (184/XY-P) released in Dec 2016 for Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel (M19)

For the SM era, there are 6 promo cards and 1 Jumbo card from the 5 movie releases:

  • Shining Ho-Oh (051/SM-P) released in Dec 2017 for Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! (M20)
  • Darkrai GX (101/SM-P) released in Jun 2018 for The Rise of Darkrai (M10)
  • Zeraora (126/SM-P) and Jumbo Pikachu & Zekrom GX released in Dec 2018 for The Power of Us (M21)
  • Detective Pikachu (143/SM-P) released in May 2019 for Detective Pikachu
  • Armored Mewtwo (196/SM-P) and Ancient Mew released in Sep 2020 for Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution (M22)

For the SwSh era, currently there is only Pokémon the Movie: Koko (M23) released in Sep 2021 but there are 3 S-P promos associated with the movie: Koko (118/S-P), Zarude V (119/S-P) and Swallowed Up Pikachu 120/S-P).

So that ends my Korean movie promos collection from 2011 to 2021 for now. Hoping for many more Korean movie promos to collect in the years to come!

Finally picked up the 3rd Place Victory Cup for Spring 2012 Battle Road last month.

With this card on hand, I am happy to have the 1st - 3rd for Autumn 2011, Spring 2012, Autumn 2012 and Spring 2013! Long overdue, since I bought the other 11 cards in 2018/19, but always get distracted with my other collection.

Also, pick up the Pikachu, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble on the Ball recently. The Pikachu was through an eBay auction while the trio are bought as BIN. Of course, the following week of my purchase, Pokemon announced the Pikachu will be made available through GAME in-store promo. So, I’m not sure how to feel about the Pikachu purchase! Oh well, I’m just happy to have them in my collection.
