Why do some ebay sellers never respond to messages?

There is a card I am interested in buying on ebay I have messaged the seller twice now, once asking if it was possible to have additional photos and once to ask if they would consider a offer on the card and had no response to either.

Do they actually want to sell the card?!

To me it’s like if I walked into a shop on the highstreet and say to the store owner hey I’m interested in buying this from you can I ask some information about the product and they just blank you and walk off to check the stock room or something. It’s just bad business.

Now I’m wondering if it’s worth hitting the buy it now as the seller has 99 positive feedback but I hate the idea if there was a issue that I may not be able to get a answer from them. Anyone else have this problem?

That’s only seller’s problem if they don’t want to make extra money more quickly, happens all the time. I made an inquiry a month ago about item which description wasn’t clear enough, still haven’t heard anything back from seller. Instead of making blind purchase it’s just better to wait for another chance, got the same item from trusted source and currently waiting for it.

i tend to put it down as they have something they dont want you to see or they lazy. then i decide if its worth risking the money on something that could possibly be a dud.

I try to respond to everything instantly if I’m on my mobile.

But sometimes takes a few hours if sleeping.

I don’t know, some people are just busy you know. Not everyone sells full-time, they have a life, kids, work… have to understand eBay was initially built so any normal person can hop on and just list their stuff for sale.
Normal lives are busy. And trading cards from their hobby is sometimes difficult.

I personally don’t respond to most messages asking for additional photos and lowered prices, in my selling experience the type of people asking for all these details are more trouble than they’re worth, they’re usually very picky and prone to returning items, or time wasters which go missing after you’ve spent your time accommodating their requests

I didn’t know who to quote off of…japan international or here cause I agree with both.

I’d love to do everything everybody asks for but it wouldn’t be possible timewise. Plus, and I hate to say this but people with all those extra requests normally don’t follow through with a bid anyway plus like ace said, they’re not my kind of customer anyway.

For most of us it isn’t a full time business so it’s not like walking into a store where you’ll get face to face and immediate replies.
Finally, we all put pics up though pics aren’t really very helpful. Plus, if the seller wanted to hear an offer they would use eBay’s offer feature.

There are exceptions but generally this is how I do it.

I understand that a seller may not respond immediately as of course everyone has other things going on in their lives and this may not be a full time business for them, but in this day and age with the technology we have surely they can reply with a sentence even if it’s to say sorry I don’t have the time to send additional pictures or not accepting offers, it only takes 30 seconds. I have been waiting a few days for a response to my initial message. I respond to messages on items I’m selling unless the request is ridiculous and I aim to do so within 48 hours at the latest.

I agree pictures don’t show everything when talking about the condition of the card. However the pictures the seller has are bad quality and blurry, I just like to see that the card doesn’t have any major flaws like a bent corner etc.

I don’t think that all buyers that make these requests are time wasters. I certainly wouldn’t put myself in that category, personally I wanted further information so that I would be comfortable going ahead making the purchase, when a card is worth a few hundred pounds I think it’s acceptable to ask a couple of basic questions.

True. For a several hundred dollar item it’s not too much to ask for more pictures. Only problem is, if the pictures on the listing were so bad chances are the new pictures he takes wouldn’t be much better.

The few times I’ll actually send more pictures I’ll just add them to the listing.

I get what Gary is saying 100%, but he also mostly sells graded product so I understand he won’t take 20 different pics for picky collectors that want Pristine/Black Label PSA 10s and Gem Mint 9s. :grin:

This has happened to me far too often and usually it’s at auction where my bid could range anywhere from like $100-1000 on certain lots especially if there’s a big card in there that’s worth anywhere from $50 to $2000+. lol Oh well, when the sellers don’t answer it’s truly their loss.
