Sealed base set 2 booster box has a rattling sound

Hello I just bought a base set 2 booster box in person with cash and everything seems to check out. The wrapping looks super old, its tight around corners. No rippling or yellowing discoloration from being reheated, the paint on the wizards logos have wear where the logos wrap over corners and edges. The seams look legit, and I can see packs when I press down the corrugated cutout. However when I shake the box or tilt it. Something slides inside and hits the side of the box with a thud. Is this normal? Could it be a dislodged pack? It sounds more like a pampflit than a pack… but I dont remember these booster boxes coming with a pampflit. Does anyone have a base set 2 booster box and has experience with this?

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

Maybe a cockroach got inside before the sealing process and died?

I recall one of mine had the same rattling

Shouldn’t be anything in there other than packs. Maybe one didn’t get sealed properly and you’re hearing the cards coming out of an end.

I had the same thing happen to the one and only box that I bought. I opened it and the packs had been resealed. The cards had come loose. This purchase soured my sealed booster box collecting, and I have since focused on graded cards…which is too bad. But, I don’t have the expertise in determining fake from real from resealed booster boxes.

My team rocket box makes the same rattling sound. I was able to peek inside through the top and it appears as though one of the top packs became dislodged. As a result the top two packs slide back and forth horizontally creating a thudding sound similar to what you described.

To decide the fate of your Base Set 2 box, between the possibilities mentioned by @whiterabbit and @lugiaslair249 , perhaps you can perform a little experiment: spend ~$100 on a modern booster box. Open it up and dislodge the top two packs from each other. Close the box and twist it around to see if it replicates the sound you’re hearing with your Base Set 2 box. Then open a pack and leave the cards in the box, close the box and twist it around again and note the sound it makes. Maybe that’ll help you make a diagnosis of your Base Set box! I know it involves spending some money, but you’ll still be getting Pokemon cards so it won’t go to complete waste haha. Just an idea:) Also, I’d wait for some more peoe to weigh in. I thought most booster box fakes occur only with Base Set, since they didn’t have the wizards logo on the plastic seal so it’s much easier to fake, and all future boxes had the Wizards logo. But I honestly know next to nothing about booster boxes lol

I had a few booster boxes with this issue and clearly remember 2, an Unlimited Base Set and a 1st Edition Neo Destiny.

The box is fine.

My base box had that. I believe it was a loose pack. So one side probably had 19 packs and the other 17

Oh wow… if this box is resealed I would be extremely impressed… I’m sorry you had that bad of an experience with yours :c
Do you have pictures of the box at all before you opened it like the seams and condition of the plastic wrap?
