Scumbag buyer - watch out.

I’ve had to deal with similar situations in the past and had to learn the hard way, I was selling regular unlimited fossil packs a few months back and somebody messaged me asking if they were legit because someone had sent them a revealed pack, I messaged him saying they were and he bought three off of me for £37.50. I sent them regular first class and with proof of postage a day or so later and the guy starts messaging me like 2 days later demanding to know where they are. I tell him that they will arrive shortly being as 2 other indentical packages were revived already that I had sent on the day, I also show him the proof of postage, needless to say as soon as is possible I had a case opened against me, which despite showing proof I posted at least something to his address, I lost… Full refund and packs gone. Also I have sent people out replacements and then had them claim that also didn’t turn up and have been forced to refund them. eBay buyers are bellends 90% of the time which is why I always try to buy my cards from people on here who I trust.

Send tracked for anything over £20 mate as some people will go a long way to gain very little if they can do it dishonestly.

100% ALWAYS add tracking. I have never had a package lost usps and always add tracking.

Funny story - One time my USPS paypal printed label didn’t automatically update on eBay, so it just said shipped with no tracking. 4 days later I receive a message from the buyer saying “I DIDN’T RECEIVE THE ITEM YET, GIVE ME A FULL REFUND NOW!”. Sent him a polite message letting him know the tracking number was updated and said it was delivered earlier that day. Needless to say I didn’t hear from him again. Was a sub $20 card.

I just assume people will ALWAYS take full advantage of situations, hence why I cover myself as much as possible! (its strange that its really only the card scene where I have seen people act this way)

I hear what people are saying, I have always put myself in his shoes from the start hence I did everything in my power to help him and resolve it.

However, I gave him so much evidence directly to the contrary yet he still continued to accuse me of being a liar and a thief, sidestepping everything I told him. He also seemed perplexed at times as to why I took such objection to his accusations. This tells me he does not understand what integrity is, and he likely has none himself. What @milhouse said struck with me too, he doesn’t seem that smart or well educated - and this does not mean he’d be more likely to deceive but I think it does mean he can’t hide it as well.

In my heart of hearts, I know a pig when I see one.

I see his point of view, 12 days to send an item is unacceptable in my opinion unless there is dire emergency. You did try to do the right thing by refunding $5 and keep him updated but at the end of the day if you’re going to be selling you should treat it like a business and he as the customer. If I pay for a product and the company keeps telling me they can’t ship they can’t ship and then says they only shipped 1st class then yes I am going to get upset and angry. It makes you look lazy and not serious. And of course when you’re saying you refunded him but nothing is showing up in his paypal account? Yes he is going to get angry cuz now he thinks your lying, hence the scammer accusations. I get that you tried to do the right thing and by sharing your story it looks like you are indeed just a nice guy who fucked up, but from the customer point of view it looks like you tried to stall and fuck him over. Doesn’t matter if you’re being nice in DM’s. And of course he is going to be courteous at first, if he got angry and started cursing right away he knows it would make you pissed and more likely to scam him. But as soon as he had his suspicions he lashed out cuz he had enough. Rookie mistake my friend haha, but you live and you learn. I just hope you don’t make the same mistake again

I was going to make a little note but it didn’t take 12 days to send the item. It was 12 days from him purchasing it to him writing that message in the case. He said 12 days because he was being bold and saying I had not sent it. In reality I took 5 days, and the listing had an allowance for it to be sent in 3 business days, so it was 2 days late.

I think you handled the situation as professionally as possible, but ultimately it was haste on your end that allowed him to run off with a free card. This is something most of us have done at some point. The lesson here is to ship out quickly and use Tracking more often than not. PayPal and eBay will always go with the buyer in a not received case as you already know. The buyer knows this too, and frankly he can get away with a lot more than you can.

Be careful when issuing refunds. We know you meant well but the delays and refunds made you look shady. And thanks for the heads up – I just blocked this guy.

The other lesson I learnt is if issuing a refund, perhaps put the funds in your account seperarely beforehand and that may make it instant. I still swear it has been instant in the past, who knows.

You admit your faults and have learnt from them. Ebay is a well oiled machine that sometimes doesnt work in our favor. This is a business transaction not a friendly coffee and biscuit situation. I wouldnt do partial refunding on good merrit ever. Use the system the way its constructed and have refunds pulled when absolutely needed. But the main thing that screwed you here is no tracking. Your word against his, sorry

No need to apologise, I’m not under any illusions here. I’ll remain to give people partial refunds if I ever deem it necessary though. Nobody expects it and sometimes I feel like they deserve it like in this case. A little bit of goodwill goes a long way.

The friends and family payments can be more dangerous as a seller as ive read the payment can be reversed quite easily. Less investigation as a purchase scenario isnt therw i assume??

Oh that sounds scary if true? From what I’ve read they can’t be reversed, could we get a source?

It was a while back and a quick search then gave me nothing. I believe there were two options though, the classic chargeback through the bank if paid via card or claiming unauthorized activity through paypal. My assumption would be however that if the request was done after the person had removed the money from their account then tough titties. Or if a chargeback paypal may have to cough it up?

There are very limited opportunities to get your money back through F&F. One of them is if the seller forces the transaction through F&F (example refuses to do G&S).

PayPal lists all their terms of service though.
