TL;DW “Repaired” cards send back by PSA and marked as Altered. Some non-repaired cards included in the order were also marked Altered. So the result was all cards in the order were not graded and sent back by PSA.
I don’t know if PSA does this, but would be nice if they kept scans of repaired/altered cards. I would think the positioning of holo pattern dots/stars would act like a card “fingerprint” and make them much easier to compare and identify.
After adding a chemical compound that fills in scratches. After “polishing” which, when done to a car, is altering the paint by either filling in scratches or removing a layer of outer coat surrounding the area with abrasive liquid so to level out the area and improve gloss.
Clown. I hate these people. Just the fact that he refers to the persian as a very rare card when it was a played card that he cheated the card’s legacy to declare it an arbitrary condition rare card that it really isn’t makes me more irritated than I can say.
Looking at newer certs psa 9’s and seeing how clean they are hmm. Do we think people are starting to see the effects of what card cleaning can do to a card after some time has passed , and possibly contacting psa about it not knowing they bought an altered card and wanting a refund?
Props to the grader who called this out, I’m sure a lot of altered cards still get through but it makes me really happy to see that they are trying to stop them from getting through
these cards def have a polished look to them. bought a couple cgc 9s a while back to crack that had a similar look and thought they were probably polished too. there are a couple ebay sellers that are constantly putting up dozens of CGC 9-10 vintage with super shiny holofoils.
It is getting to the point where I trust the “older” certs ( me being told 4-6 mill certs are old now lol ) that have a lower chance of being “professionally” cleaned. Was getting super crazy how clean holo’s were looking for lugias from neo gen when i was still on the search for them. Thankfully i had someone help me with also telling me most have been altered that have the 10-13 mill certs
I am in no way an expert but I would agree that there are a lot of new cert vintage cards with holo foil that looks too shiny or polished. It’s hard to describe with words but it just looks unnatural or uncanny.
If a lay person feels something is off, I hope PSA can detect more of these altered cards in the future.
Edit: here are a couple examples of new cert vintage cards I strongly feel were polished. Again, I’m not an expert so would love it if others could chime in with their own assessment.
That “data” is easy to manipulate, I’m not one to accuse others of lying but who truly knows? Was that person (who helped you) altering cards…? Is that how they can say that? Who knows. People like to say stuff but I’m not discounting someone’s first-hand experience either… it’s always been crucial to buy the card, not the grade, but nowadays I think that is even further lost with slabs that have “continuing art” on the label, people focusing on the colour of the GradedGuard®, et cetera… if that makes sense. Altered cards are almost always visibly altered as soon as the solutions dry, the word “REPAIR” in the video’s title is in all caps as a means of narrative control.
Fully agree, I am glad to see they rejected the entire submission (per the videographer’s word). A step in the right direction for once, IMHO.
Well at least on psa scans I’ve noticed that they changed the camera/scanner/lighting from even pre 1 mil cert which makes the cards shinier. I had submit a few pack fresh vintage holos across a couple submissions and the scans look amazing, bright, holofoils. So i wouldnt make a hasty generalization that new cert = polished
I also think it’s worth adding that the cert #'s aren’t always “linear” in terms of chronological order, relative to the specific submission date. I strictly use the label and slab variation identifiers to judge when the card was encapsulated but we also obviously know what the newest submissions are likely to be in terms of cert #'s, etc.
I do fully agree with what you are ultimately saying though, of course.
Trademarkia lists Kurt’s Card Care as having begun formal operations under that trademark in the summer of 2021, just to try to back up what I’m saying above.
