I’ve been doing a bit of research about my card and I found that the PSA Pop report has only has had 312 cards graded. Where did the other 680+ go? I’m currently looking into CGC and BGS Pop Reports, but I haven’t seen as many listings online compared to it’s counterpart, so I’m suspecting that there may be less copies than we thought, and if it’s true, it will be tied for the 2rd rarest card ever.
Where did you get that info? No way it’s a card limited to 1000 copies imho. Idk if others have some estimates, but it must be at least 10x that amount
If it was 10x that amount, why are there less than 20 Copies online compared to the green version. It started as a rumor but I am a bit confused about how a “generally available” card has so little copies listed for sale online.
There’s a more likely chance of it being over 1000 copies, but I can’t find much about the total given out.
I believe the Pokepark limited to 1000 rumor was started up in 2020 and pretty soundly debunked. There are absolutely more than 1000 of each card out there.
Even if there were only 1000 printed, most of those will not be graded. Take, for example, the Rayquaza EX 147/BW-P lottery promo which is confirmed to be limited to 1000. Only 161 have been graded with PSA, and that card is much more valuable and has a much larger incentive to be professionally graded.
Well, yes the other Rayquaza is probably more abundant, but it’s worth considering that is also much less desirable. Pokepark holos are in high demand right now, so that can skew the perception, since Ebay looks pretty dry at the moment.
As far as we know, it was sold as long as the park was open, and there were over 4 million visitors to the park.
There can be estimates made, but we’ll never have one number to anchor to. Very rare to be able to do that, and even then, there is some variation with extra copies.
The most graded Pokémon card of all time is still only a fraction of how many were distributed in 1 day last year, the incentive to grade event-based Pokémon cards from 2005 onwards would’ve been far less if not non-existent
Picture yourself as an overworked parent in 2005 Japan. You’re forced to take your screaming child to some “pokeman” amusement park for the day. You could’ve been lounging around at home reading the paper or hitting up the pachinko parlor, but instead your precious day off was sacrificed for this cause.
Then the (also overworked) park staff hands you a card of some crummy green dragon. You have no idea what it is and figure it’s probably worthless. You think about discarding it at your earliest convenience before your hyperactive child rips it from your hands and folds it into a paper airplane. You notice another disgruntled parent from across the park toss the card into the trash bin. You are mildly peeved because he should’ve thrown it into recyclables instead and decide to give him a passive-aggressive dirty look.
You then make your way to the designated smoking cage. It’s filled with dozens of other parents who share the same fate as you. A man nearby taps on your shoulder.
「タバコ、どうぞ」
You take the cigarette from his hand as he lights it, before giving him a slight bow of appreciation. It’s going to be a long day.
Trying to figure out distribution numbers from pop reports is just a losing battle tbh, there are so many reasons a specific card might have not been graded much. Don’t get me started on cards that have significantly more graded copies than their supposed distribution amounts.
