As some fun PSA Pokémon trivia, the most infrequently appearing Pokémon grades out of the 1,495,228 Pokémon cards PSA has so far graded with a count below 1,000 are:
Authentic - 726
PSA 7.5 - 691
PSA 8(Q) - 424
PSA 1.5 - 153
PSA 7(Q) - 129
PSA 6(Q) - 77
PSA 5.5 - 65
PSA 5(Q) - 54
PSA 4.5 - 38
PSA 4(Q) - 31
PSA 3.5 - 31
PSA 3(Q) - 26
PSA 2.5 - 18
PSA 1(Q) - 12
PSA 2(Q) - 11
PSA 1.5(Q) - 1
At a cumulative 2,487 these make up just 0.167% of all the Pokémon PSA have graded - although considering most of these are badly printed and/or damaged that’s not very surprising.
Great thread! lot’s of super rare items all over the place. I’m just a small fry binder collector so i do not have anything super crazy, Rarest is probably these Black Flame Ninetales. No clue on how many there are though but i know they are hard to come across!
I think these are my rarest cards. The Illustration prizes and Art Academy prizes are around 100 copies each and the Cynthia’s feelings may be a little less. Honorable mention to the no number blueback zard in the second image. But I’m not sure if those are actually rare or what the deal is with them other than they are less rare than the blue and greenbacks in the same photo.
That Cynthia’s Feelings really shot me in the heart lol also I’m pretty sure Cynthia’s Feelings is less just because I only see the same 2 or 3 sellers trying to sell their copy and no one biting lol congrats on that though, and all of these cards are so cool
Thanks! Yep the Cynthia’s usually happen in private sales on the Western market though I did see a raw sell for $6,500 last year on the Japanese market. I believe that there are less than 100 of them from the research I did and bugging people who actually speak Japanese to translate articles and such for me. The Tournament was scheduled to span 5 venues nationwide in Japan over the course of 7 days but there was a bomb threat so the whole event was cancelled. Two of the 5 venues ended up getting to run their tournaments for two days before the cancellation happened, so a few were awarded and I’m sure some staff member may have kept a couple. Another card that fell victim to this event was the trophy card “Miracle Diamond”. However, Miracle diamond was also awarded in the 2007 tournament so there are supposedly 90 of those floating around.
I didn’t know the threat was a bomb threat, I’ve been following the card for awhile so I could snatch a messed up one to slot into my Cynthia binder set and call that a day, but I never realized the long ride I was in for or how much I’ll have to slowly trim off my paychecks to get her Congrats on having her, what grade do you have the card in? I can’t see in the image lol
It’s a PSA9 that I bought off of @masonkampe when I first got back into Pokemon. I also have a raw that I’m hoping will score a 10. Fingers are crossed.
There are many graded cards which probably would deserve a place in this post but I’ll choose BGS 10 1st ed. Feraligatr 5/111, really unique piece sitting in Neo Genesis collection.
I also give lots of credit to japanese ADV/PCG era sealed boxes like this 1st ed. Clash of the Blue Sky, almost magical and mesmerizing things to examine.
These just came in the mail and I’m fairly sure they are the rarest cards in my collection. They had a really unique and interesting release which made me gravitate towards them more than their PLAY counterparts. Not only that but they have a star pattern that covers the card as well as the traditional cosmos foil (I’ve tried my best to take pictures of it but its quite difficult). WCP as a set is really strange as it is just Power Keepers in Japanese but the set was only available to players 3 weeks leading up to the 2007 World Championships. I’m not very knowledgeable about the card game competitively but apparently this set was pretty unpopular as not many cards were playable ;3;. I wish I could say I managed to snag the Unlimited print of these cards which are significantly rarer but sadly I’ll have to settle for the 1st ed print, even though they are more common I definitely think they are still quite rare due to its idiosyncratic release and low pop.
