Yew that is true that overtime as you sell more the money lost will be negligible when compared ti the amount saved on shipping with tracking and the supplies. The thing about that is to do that you must sell at price that has low profits and fast turn around as far as ebay is concerned. There are those like edmerlr who use combined first class tracking along with the TCA & Rockcarolinacc who do something similar especially with higher value items. Those people have a good reputation and return customers who appreciate the service and accurate description and are willing to pay that extra for shipping.
For the casual seller they do not do the constant volume needed to warrant taking the risk of loss. Tracking should almost always be used when people are running a TNT style store.
I still remember (I told this on here before)
when a buyer lodged a despite over a Charizard he bought off me, I’ll re-go over it for those who do not know of this story ;p…
It was sold as NM and was genuinely Near Mint…
he made a claim saying it was in played and had snot and all sorts on it I asked him to show me pics /proof of this and I’d happily refund if he returned the card (he would not agree to do so nor show the proof, eventually he did but he just showed the exact same pics of my listing which proved not him right but me…
Was the best feeling then I saw Ebay closed it and said it’s not my fault and they will refund him themselves
I just accept it will happen from time to time and try my best to scare the buyer into thinking they will get done for theft lol.If that does not work I just give them a refund as long as they promise to leave positive feedback.I have been lucky and any scamer/genuine buyer has contacted me and not oppened a case.My percentage loss from scamers stands at 1.4% so far and I can live with that.
I just got burned by an ebay user with 2 FB ( a new member). Buyer bought, messaged me at least 3 times asking about shipping, which I always responded it shipped XXXday the ##. Buyer got item in a timely manner, it is just as described, yet negative feedback for me. This is ridiculous, seems buyers can leave negative feedback for absolutely any reason, as long as it is not extortion.
Are there any real Ebay rules as to what can or can not qualify for negative feedback?
I do know that negative feedback becomes void if it contains profanity or extortion.
I tried to find some sort of “when you can leave negative feedback” list by Ebay, but it seems such does not exist.
@binx345 I think that’s sort of a double-edged sword. Just thinking as a buyer, maybe I get the item in a timely manner and such but the seller was a total jerk. I’d be inclined to leave neutral/negative feedback just because of that, which is hard for eBay to review.
I do think you’re right though, people leave negative feedback for dumb reasons. I think sellers should be able to have eBay review their negative feedbacks and if the item arrived in a timely manner, was as described, and you communicated well with the buyer, remove the negative feedback.
This seller took at least 5 days to pay, and I had open an unpaid item case because they would not reply (only sent initial automatic invoice and 1 request to pay). They paid Friday evening. Saturday started the 4-6 messages about how they did not get the item yet (less than 1 day after they paid!), and when it was sent. Which I told them each time when I sent and on what date (post office was closed during the weekend). The negative in the feedback was for not uploading tracking information, which was not included in the auction and is optional for sellers to do. Like I said, it was a new member, and now one on my blocked buyers list. Just needed to vent.
They really should disallow negatives if person gets the item and it is as described. But Ebay won’t because they care little to nothing for the buyers.
You can try calling eBay’s customer service # and kindly ask them if they’ll remove the negative feedback. If it’s your 1st neg, they will most likely remove it, just be sure to explain the situation thoroughly. Threaten to switch to selling on Amazon if they don’t oblige, it should work if asking nicely doesn’t
Lame… you should win, I believe eBay clearly states that not needing the item anymore isn’t a valid reason to cancel a transaction. Either way, didn’t eBay/PayPal change the rules now? I think that they can’t open a case on both eBay and PayPal, and as long as you won the eBay case then you should be ok.
I’ve sold quite a few items on ebay over the last 6 months, only had one guy try to scam me, it went like this;
I sold a Dragon Ball Z Tazo for close to $40 via bid, which is probably $10 too much for this particular tazo. I get paid for the tazo, and ship it to the buyer. A week and a bit later i get a message from him saying he received the tazo, but it was bent!, alarm bells immediately started going off, because i don’t think i could bend one of these tazos with my bare hands unless i was really mad lol, let alone somehow getting bent in the post. So i ask him for a picture of the tazo, and he says can he just have a full or partial refund. And again, asking for a partial refund really sounded funny to me, because a bent tazo is just like a bent pokemon card, basically worthless, so then and there i knew he thought he had over paid and wanted to get some of that money back.
I told him, i need a picture of the damaged tazo, he says he doesnt know how to take pictures and send them too me (despite having 20ish listings up himself with photos of his things for sale lol), i told him fine, send me the tazo back and you’ll get a full refund, i also proceed to find his info out via paypal, and locate him on facebook, and add him. He says he will not send it back for a refund, I tell him I’ve added you on facebook, just send the picture to me over facebook. He insists that he doesnt own a facebook and says he will just give me bad feed back if i dont refund him. I tell him go ahead, I’ll just get ebay to reverse the feedback (not sure if thats possible). Thats all i heard from him, coincidentally his facebook account was deleted 5 hours later haha
