I loved this video! So many hilarious moments and also dropping some real truth about entitlement that people need to hear!
Watched it three times already

The problem isnā€™t that itā€™s illegal (who fucking cares, weed is illegal too), itā€™s that itā€™s easy to rig, manipulate, scam people. There is no way to regulate it, so while it seems like it could be fun and you have a 1 in x chances of winning, the reality often is that you have a zero chance in winning. You have a better chance of winning a ring toss hosted by the end boss carnie at the traveling circus.

@martincollects agreed, it needed to be said. Also, I thought the first minute was pretty funny.

Just saw Scottā€™s video and absolutely agree with what is said. Especially the self-entitlement part.

We are lucky enough to be in a hobby which allows each collector to aim for different tiers depending on income level, so I fail to see a benefit or a logical reason to buy into these raffles.

Raffles inevitably create a ā€˜feel badā€™ emotion on the majority of participants and that, on its own, has the potential to deter future collectors from engaging seriously with the hobby.

Being an optimist though, I think this will be a self-resolving issue. Firstly, because it wonā€™t take too long for this market to be riddled with scammer buyers, taking up several spots and disputing transactions after failing to win the draw. Secondly because even non-scamming buyers will probably be dismaied after losing enough raffles and end up reporting sellers to paypal.

Once these practices become commonplace, raffling will be so risky for sellers that it will come to a natural halt and peace will be restored.

Raffle hosters are ALL thieving garbage and participants are ignorant losers. Simple as that.

Just watched Scottā€™s video. Great job.
The part where he mentions needing to win one raffle in order to win a spot into a second raffle reminds me of what we do in poker tournaments. The World Series of poker is a $10,000.00 buy-in event. For those who canā€™t or donā€™t want to pay that much they will join whatā€™s called ā€œsatelliteā€ tournaments in advance which are hosted by casinos all over the place. You may have 10 players put up $1,000.00 each and the one winner gets the 10k buy-in to the World Series.
Now unlike the raffles, these arenā€™t scams.

On a side note, I played in 3 of the championships and cashed only once in the first one I played. That year I was busted out by ā€œThe Kidā€ Stu Ungar who went on to win that year (I think 1979 or 1980).
