I lowball offer all the time and I auto reject low ball offers. I’ve bought many things way under market price simply because the seller doesn’t know it’s value. I know my cards values so I’m not selling low.
I don’t take offense to any offer I get, I don’t take offense to being rejected, I have better things in my life to put my worries in. Now get off my lawn.
Exactly why I block people like you lol. If you can’t steal it, you won’t buy it. So why would I want to keep getting lowball offers from you and need to respond?
You can block me Gary. For the record I don’t lowball people I know know the value of their items. I wouldn’t waste my time on them, that’s why I don’t come to efour w/ low offers. It’s not going to work.
Some days ago I was looking for a card of my interest.
I found it.
it was 48€ OBO…nice I thought.
I offered 35€…auto-rejected.
I offered 40€…auto-rejected. (The price that I thought the seller would accept. I was wrong.)
At this point i decided to write to the seller just to ask the price he was willing to accept, he said 45€…
Now, I am not the maximum expert of eBay, but 3€ come on…I mean, don’t waste both my time and your time.
Just to point out, I am not rich, but if I want something that is not easy to find I am willing to pay more than item’s value, anyway i haven’t bought that card, probably I would have bought it if it was BIN, but if you write OBO and your price is just 3€ under your showed price…
I wrote this just to show you that you don’t have to worry in my opinion, it is not the buyer sometimes, just the seller that doesn’t want to sell.
Why are you allowing such low offers if you don’t want to receive them? If you’re not going to accept under $200, set the threshold to near that value.
Best Offer is VERY VERY helpful in international situations. I have Best offer on a lot of my items just so that buyers have the option to make an offer at market price and not have to pay. Ebay makes it hard to combine orders at times and this is an easy way around it. There are many useful reason to put best offer on a listing other than you want a buyer to come in and give you a lower price.
I am never offended by anyone who puts a price out there. It is the “What is the lowest you will take” message I do not like. If I already have my price out there and the buyer thinks it is unfair, then the buyer needs to step up with his best offer in a message. If it seems reasonable I will check out the market and consider it. So you offered 83% of value and he auto-rejected. That just means he won’t sell at that price. He already haggled with himself in his message by knocking off 3€, you did well. I would not do that. I always counter with “What do you think is a current fair market value?” or if I am not interested in going lower “Currently price is firm”
I am not writing this to pick on your response “At this point i decided to write to the seller just to ask the price he was willing to accept”
just saw it as a good opportunity to give an idea on where a seller’s head can be. I know for my items I take on research for each of the items and set a fair current price. I get bombarded with people all the time trying to work me lower, in many cases 5 minutes after an item goes up haha. Most of the time it is for no apparent reason other that a buyer sees it as a haggling opportunity.
Ebay basically automates the setting to allow offers and it’s a pain in the dick removing the offer option after. If you’re just listing one or two things, you’ll be sure to turn offers off, but when you’re putting up a bunch of stuff at once and need to keep manually turning that option off before listing, it gets monotonous quickly.
Eh because honestly I really don’t care, my point is if it is a ridiculous offer, I’ll just simply block you. Haggling on eBay is awesome and you can eventually work people up or down if you can haggle reasonably. But starting your offer so low is auto block.
If I went to a car lot and offered $100 on a $25,000 car, similar story. There is an established price for the car, and while you can offer whatever you want, I can also throw you off the lot and you can do that elsewhere.
Not speaking on their behalf, but because it will take much longer to list all the items with those thresholds when you have hundreds of items. They also didn’t say they wouldn’t accept under $200, just would sell probably around there, $15 is not a good offer. I dislike anyone who offers under 75% “market value” for my item, especially those sending 50%, its just wasting everyone’s time. For ridiculously low offers I decline and let them know they will be blocked if they keep wasting my time. They are not looking to buy the item.
First of all thanks for the explanation, it’s useful to have the other point of view(the seller), it helps understanding better the situation.
When I asked:”At this point i decided to write to the seller just to ask the price he was willing to accept” I didn’t mean to be rude saying:”What is the lowest you will take", I would never write this, it’s annoying and useless, I just thought that my offer(40€) was fair enough.
To answer to your question in this specific case (to show that I was no low balling) the fair market value of the item at the time was an average of 22,80$(20€) in USA, but I considered that since it was in my country and I had no import charges(that maybe the seller has already paid in the past)and since it was not an auction(so the premium is fine), 40€ would be fair. that’s it.
Thanks to your explanation I understand the sellers’ view, but sometimes they just have to understand the buyers’ one, not everyone wants to make a steal, or think that he is the smartest one, sometimes it’s just a simple question from an inexperienced buyer, we can’t tar everyone with the same brush(I hope this is the right expression that I wanted to say in Italian ).
Anyway is there a thread with the sellers’ names from the e4? It would be perfect.
I’m using the mobile version (tapatalk) and it seems that I can’t see members’ signature, but I am new to this, so I could be wrong.
If this is the cause, I will see them on the pc.
Thanks for the heads up, Gary .
