Question about 1st lugia neo genesis

Hi all,
I’m pretty new to the community and recently got my old cards back from my parents.
I have a first edition lugia from the neo genesis set and what I wanna know is it worth to grade the card? See the link below.

Another question of mine is, what kind of card should i send to get graded? Is it only first edition cards or non first edition cards from older sets?

Need some advice, please help.

Welcome to the forum @coolblitzz

There´s several reasons for grading a card:
protection, personal attachment, authentication, potential value increase, collecting etc.

Depending on what you goal is, it might make or make not sense. If it´s only for value, you can send in everything wotc that you would estimate grading an 8 or better in my opinion. Certain cards are graded almost always more valuable than selling the same card raw (1st Ed. Charizard comes to mind)

Your lugia has small indents on the backside and a heavy scratched holographic part, I´d estimate this around 6-7. I´d say it´s worth it.

If you are interested in prices of certain grades, check out: pokemonprice.com it´s a great resource and guideline. You can also check ebay sold listings.

Hi Shadowless,

Thanks for your reply.

At this moment, I don’t know what i wanna do with this card but i want to complete some of my older sets (jungle, fossil). But I have seen on forums that this card i worth something. I got on offer of 505 euro’s but i dont know if I wanna sell it yet or keep it for the collection and get the card graded.

What I understand from your post is, all older cards in good condition are worth sending. How do I make a selection to send? Am I doing that based on information from different websites?

You make the selection based on the criteria that is important to you. Nostalgia, protection, value etc.

505 euro is a very solid offer in my opinion, PSA 7s sold recently for around 500$. I can tell you from my personal experience that selling childhood cards is not a good idea, you will most likely regret it down the road if you have any kind of personal attachment to the card. If you don´t though, you could use the money to pursue some of your current goals (completing jungle, fossil)

Anything WOTC is worth grading in this day and age (except on reprints like base 2 unless it’s a holo). The market is surging right now and value is definitely there on all old gen cards even on commons. The condition of your Lugia looks ok I couldn’t give a definite answer on what grade but value is definitely there no matter what it gets I’m sure. If you don’t want to grade right now I would at least place the card in a magnetic slab to keep it preserved. It’s 1st edition though so I wouldn’t even hesitate on grading unless there something financially holding you from doing so.

I think the price is good to, but what you’re saying about the childhood cards is really why i dont know if i really wanna sell the card or not.
I think i’m going to sell my japanse cards because i dont feel personal attachment to them.
Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for you’re reaction Silenttoaths.
I think I will do more researche what cards are worth and then sending it to PSA. Are Japanese cards also worth sending not 1st edition ones?
I got neo destiny: Tyranitar, Espeon and FeraligatrNeo revelation: Crobat, Starmie and Suicune
Or should i just focus on the english ones to send?

Maybe. Depends on condition of the card. If you can take a guess what they would grade as I would look up those grades and identify if it’s worth it.

I’d be careful with this. There are a ton of common/uncommon/even rares of base unlimited. If people start noticing opportunity the market will get flooded. We’ve seen it in the past with 1st ed even.
