BF likes opening packs so I got him two (BB/WF) ETBs and a Destined Rivals booster bundle. So 24 packs. I think about 6 packs in all had hits. It was with in-store credit, so I didn’t “lose” money, but it was still a good amount of credit at today’s LGS prices. 210 dollars or so.
And when I say hits I don’t mean “super expensive card,” I mean anything above a regular holo. Maybe 40% is a decent hit rate, I’m not sure. It just felt extremely disappointing at the time. I’ve also had the flip side, where a Twilight Masquerade ETB had 5 hits including the Carmine FA.
Either way, that money could have gone to a few expensive singles we really liked. I think at MSRP opening a lot of packs at once is fine, but I will be personally staying away…

The only time I open booster packs are prize winnings from tournaments I participate in since I don’t really like storing loose packs. Also CBA to sell the loose packs.
Otherwise the answer is 0 unless you got it as a gift

To actually enjoy everything in it, including the commons, that 4 packs i’ve been opening per set is pretty close to the max amount! After that it’s pretty much just rushing to the end which is the inappropriate way
