Not really
Lack of money has gotten in the way of my Pokémon addiction, though.

Space can sometimes be an issue, Currently using an old broken fridge freezer in my garage to fill with bulk. If it gets worse, I may have to use the washing machine and oven!

I would say my Pokemon addiction has gotten in the way of other entertainment, so more or less just opportunity cost. Still today I’d rather buy more Pokemon than eat out, get starbucks, etc.. Before I used to buy a $6 starbucks everyday for the last 5 or 6 years and now that has fully stopped and being funneled into my Pokemon savings

I try to stick to a budget, so it doesnt. There have been times where Ive said to myself “Maybe if I just get a loan for this…”, and then get a wake up smack from the wife.

Not in a big way. I’m currently packing up for a move that’s 500+ miles away and it’s putting a spotlight how much space my Pokemon stuff takes up. It highlights that I really need to stay away from bulky retail products, the value to space ratio is too far out of whack.

Has Pokemon ever been in the way of something? I don’t have a girlfriend so I’d say yes…

Sometimes what you think looks like a barrier is actually a gateway.

I’ve had 1 Pokemon hobby get in the way of a different Pokemon hobby.
I booked a table for the first LI TCG show of 2024 when they went on sale. A month or so later, Pokemon Go announced Hoenn Tour on that same weekend. Couldn’t do both and already paid for everything for LI. The only US PoGo event I missed. Still bitter about it.

It’s probably a personality thing, but I never can keep an interest in any one thing for very long.
With Pokemon especially I go through bursts, periods of activity followed by months (or even years) of hibernation. I am like that with all my hobbies and interests. I obsess over it for a few months and then burn out. This is reflected in my post history here.
I’m somewhat impressed by the people who are here consistently for years. I’d probably have quite the collection if I could maintain interest for that long too.
So Pokemon probably does get in the way at times, but usually by then something else becomes my temporary fixation.

Im exactly the same way! I become hyper fixated for a few months and then get sick of it and do something else.
I usually bounce between my various hobbies reading, video games, card collecting-- trying to get into more active hobbies as well. Of course all these are kinda expensive lol. Ive gotten to a point where I can pretty easily recognize that Im obsessing/ going too hard on any given hobby, but it can still be difficult to actually manage that

Just the regular choice making i’m sure everyone goes through, buying pokemon vs money for other hobbies, buying pokemon vs eating out, buying pokemon vs paying mortgage etc
