The platform needs an overhaul for sure but they were just acquired by CU which I’m sure already has that on the docket. What I am saying is PWCC is going to lose a lot of business over this and I theorize a lot of those cards will transition to the Goldin Vault. All they need to do is offer a free vault promo now and that would crush PWCC. I think they’re in a good spot to take advantage of this situation which could include opening an eBay marketplace to fill the PWCC void. Or I could be thinking way too into this and should take off my tinfoil hat.
I don’t think it’s been mentioned here but I got an email from them yesterday as I had some items lined up to be included in their September auction block:
I’ve removed the email address from the message as this is a public section of the forum, but it’s the same email address you usually receive correspondence from them.
I’ve just replied to ask if the window for submitting to the new October auction will be extended - if so I’ll probably withdraw my cards as it’ll greatly increase the chance of duplicates being submitted.
Rudy posted his video on the subject. In his nutshell his opinion is that eBay has 100% rock solid proof otherwise they are idiots and can be sued for defamation. PWCC should go bat for itself with a lawsuit, and if they don’t, it’s an admission of guilt: Shocked Pikachu Face. - YouTube
I am sure they have rock solid proof, the question is proof of what? Sellers using PWCC shilling their own items, PWCC employees shilling for third parties, PWCC employees being instructed to shill by their bosses?
Those would all be different situations and have different impacts on PWCC’s and Ebay’s reputation.
Moreover, this is an admission of guilt by ebay themselves, who fail to police shill bidding on their site and only act upon it reactively.
Lastly, if ebay’s concern is shill bidding, why don’t they allow PWCC to continue selling fixed price listings?
Not taking sides btw, just questions I feel need to be asked as both companies seem to be negligent to a certain extent, but ebay seems to be shifting the blame exclusively to PWCC.
Haven’t watched Rudy’s video, but I’d say there’s negligence on eBay’s part. For years PWCC identified and assisted eBay in improving the auction experience for all bidders. eBay has been far behind the curve for years when it comes to the basics. eBay prioritized maximizing revenue through open bidder pools, lax bidder requirements, ease of account setup, bid retractions and the list goes on. eBay fostered an enviroment where the seller was deprioritized. PWCC’s good faith actions to increase bidder integrity will help their case.
The second point from this line of thought is: How long did eBay know? Why didn’t they take action sooner? Are there other accounts that did not receive the same action? Is eBay operating with selective policy enforcement? I’m guessing eBay won’t share the details since it’ll isolate exactly how this policy is enforced. If we know eBay, we know they let A LOT slip through the cracks. This inaction by eBay will hurt their case.
This will be a case for the ages. Many details will come out in due time.
@gemmintpokemon, just a guess, but maybe ebay is coming out with this now because it became clear that PWCC will create its own marketplace and leave ebay. Before that, ebay had an incentive to keep its largest trading card seller alive, but now that PWCC turned from partner to competition, ebay saw no more use to keep anything shady related to PWCC a secret, instead, they reveal it to get a head start in the coming auction house war.
