TL;DR they all have this error, it is uncorrected, %100 of them have this. Stop being scammed and overpaying for it. Don’t let some goober lie to you about it.
For the uninitiated this Ninetales has an error with the cracked ice version that came in a sealed product as a packed in promo variant. The normal set it is in(HeartGold & SoulSilver Base Set) has it in Cosmos Holo form and Reverse holo form. There is no shortage of this Cracked Ice variant. The error is that, for whatever reason, it has the Undaunted set symbol at the bottom instead of the HGSS Base Set symbol. A neat little oddity. However this was never ever fixed and reissued. Therefore, it is NOT worth the astronomical prices people seem to want for it because those selling it are highly uninformed and it would appear enough buyers are also uninformed and buying it, thinking “error=rare=expensive”. But its not rare at all. If you want to buy it for a completionist mindset and get all the holo variants for the set, cool. If you like this card, get it. Just do not buy it with the mindset that this is in any way rare. I’m just upset to think how many people unwittingly are buying this and overpaying without knowing how %100 of these cards has the error. I suppose the prices are validated anytime one sells for the wildly inflated price at this point. When all of them are errors, none of them are errors in a sense.
Thanks for the thread, SolemnStar. Makes me wonder whether we should have a larger “This Error isn’t Rare” thread to highlight common errors.
For example, I chronically see insufficient ink errors on Secret Wonders cards and sellers are listing them for outrageous prices. Most people who have collected Secret Wonders know that a large portion of the set has holo bleed (insufficient ink), and that it’s not all that rare. Same thing for Majestic Dawn.
Another one to add: the “Miki Takano” misspelled illustrator Fossil Slowpoke error is not rare, they’re all like that. Tired of this clogging my saved eBay searches
First time I saw it, it was circled with “ERROR” written on the card sleeve at a card shop. Looked it up and found that all the reverse EX Dragon Forretresses have missing ink in the Pineco evolution box. Still cool though!

But yeah, if anyone thinks it’s enough of an issue that it could get a megathread, I’d be for it. I have had many similar types of uncorrected errors fouling up searches as others have seemed to chime in on. I know the Slowpoke one. Didn’t know the foretress one. I can also toss in there the “drowsee” misspelling error on FR&LG Drowzee too.
