I was wondering, considering the importance of knowing the exact population of a card when you’re chasing it, is there a register that keeps track of the cards that have been mislabelled (see for instance this Ariados, labelled as 1st ed but actually unlimited)?
If not, would it be worth having a thread on the forum somewhere to keep track of the bad labels that come up?
For some cards it doesn’t matter, but I’ve heard for example a “normal” PSA 10 japanese base set Charizard has been labelled as no rarity on one instance, causing the pop report to wrongly give 6 PSA 10 no rarity Charizards.
Sounds like a good idea! A thread where everyone can post incorrectly labeled graded cards they own or have seen pictures of, so we can keep track of them for a more accurate pop report. Especially with trophy cards like some 1998 copies that are mislabeled as 1998 (or vice versa, not sure anymore).
Also, I think @pichufan has a Pichu that is labeled as a Raichu (not sure if you still have it, or if you’ve send it in for re-labeling)?
I did indeed, but I’ve since sent that and the 2 other mislabelled Pichu cards I had in for relabelling (one of them was marked as a Pikachu, too).
A database of mislabelled slabs would be a nice thing to have, but it’d be very difficult to maintain.
The fact that PSA are able to mislabel slabs in the first place baffles me, especially when it comes to incredibly rare cards like these:
PSA do tend to just blindly go along with whatever people have submitted to them. In this case, I imagine the cards were simply placed in a different order to what was submitted.
All 21 copies of “Snap Pikachu Best Photo” are mislabeled and are in reality “Snap Pikachu Trainer Magazine Vol. 1”. I concur though, we should bundle these in a compendium for our community!
