Read about this somewhere - they will most certainly put it in a new case and the reviewed grade should supersede any grade that comes before that (whether higher, lower or the same).
Not sure if there is a way to prevent a lower grade but seems unlikely.
Another thing that you may want to know is that the card retains its serial number even if the grade changes, which I didn’t know intitially. Otherwise what is above is correct.
I sent in 15 cards for regrade late last year.
– The 12 cards that stayed the same grade came back in the same cases they were submitted in.
– The three that increased in grade came back in new cases.
– All 15 cards came back with their same serial numbers.
First question: No. Your card stays in the same case and is sent back, usually with a little arrow/note pointing to what kept it from upgrading. Reholdering is an entirely different service.
Second question: No. In my experience they stand by the initial grade or upgrade it, they never automatically lower it unless there’s a request from the customer.
Just remember they will probably almost never lower the grade (unless you have, say a 10 with a big crease) since that means they will have to pay you due to their financial guarantee $$$$$$
When submitting a card for a “Regrade” You choose the Review option right? Also is there no way to put a “Min Grade” or does the current grade stay the min grade.
I’m submitting a psa 8 that I got awhile back and looks to be a 9 contender.
Actually I always wondered this. Will they de-grade an item when they review it and think that PSA9 you send in hoping to get a 10 out of it turns out to become an 8?
People argue that there’s bias when when graders review a card. The grade will force the reviewer to look for why it received that grade originally, if nothing can be found to justify the grade, only then there will be an upgrade. Also to save cost when submitting to PSA as they don’t combine return shipping.
