I just received a charizard from psa. The card is and very nice. I didn’t check the “no qualifier” box and the card came back as a 6. I think the card is an 8 if it were not off center. Would it be a good idea to get it regraded with a qualifier?. I am certain they wouldn’t give me a lower grade.
The card has minimal whiting on the back edges and the Holo is pristine.
Send or not send?
You’re misunderstanding the process. Since you didn’t check the no qualifier box, they already considered it for a qualifier and it did not meet the mark. Qualifiers are arbitrary nonetheless and there’s no way you can request one.
My card is very definitely off center. I thought for sure they would pick up on that. But you are right I thought you had to check the box, not to request a qualifier but to get one if there’s one.
Thank you for your response.
I think whether or not they give out the OC qualifier is very subjective. Usually the card has to be very OC though
A PSA 6 “must be 80/20 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse”.
A PSA 8 “must be approximately 65/35 to 70/30 or better on the bfront and 90/10 or better on the reverse”.
Generally to get an OC qualifier, everything about the card must be deserving of a higher grade, yet the centering is grades below what the rest of the card deserves. E.g. an otherwise “Mint” or “Gem Mint” card with a 80/20 centering could get a PSA 9 (OC). A card which fits near the PSA 6 or 7 range of card quality due to scrathes, creases, whitening etc. will just straight get the PSA 6 or 7 and not a qualifier. If you are saying the rest of the card quality is ~PSA 8 it seems reasonable to just get the PSA 6 if the centering falls around the PSA 6 parameters.
There could be a microcrease that isn’t very visible holding the grade back. My shadowless Charizard looks like 8 quality but has the tiniest indent that you can barely see which resulted in a 6.
Personally I would just keep it as it is. I wouldn’t bother trying to regrade anything that I didn’t feel was 10 worthy.
