TBH I’m not a fan of PSA one bit but I still wouldn’t say this had a shot at a 10 regardless of there being a hidden dent or not. There’s small corner whitening(x3) and consistent edge whitening on the left and top borders
If there is a dent, that brought the card down automatically to a 6, and the whitening brought it down to a 5.
Your best bet for finding out the grade would be letting King Pokemon inspect it first, and if he doesn’t find anything send it back to PSA for review
(btw regardless of there being a dent or not, this is still a gorgeous card that any expedition Charizard fan would love to have )
oh and one more edit : I agree with your recent post that PSA upcharging for grading expensive cards is definitely messed up. Kinda makes it hard to believe the ‘objective’ part that grading should be
Im not one who likes to throw input into heated situations, such as this might be becoming, but to throw caution to the wind here, id like to throw in some input.
While I too am for friendly conversation, its rough with topics such as these being that they pertain to our precious cards and the company we use to grade with. I completely side with @fourthstartcg in this matter in how PSAs standards have always been consistent, and that consistency has been proven time and time again, while also there have been countless occurrences where there are periods of individuals who come forth and take issue with grades and then light up forums, instagram, or any other social media source with these said issues which then hinder on our hobby, our spirits, and the well being of a healthy collecting environment. Ive been fairly new compared to others here back into the collecting game, however if you search around for PSA and grade issues, youll find that they will pop up quite often, which many mods and members whom manage said forums then have to deal with, which could be where any slights might be found within any member of the community as these matters are without a doubt quite contagious and frustrating.
That being said, discussion is always great in these regards because it does promote knowledge within the community base, but (and anyone could please correct me if wrong) with a title such as this post holds while also being new to the forum, its quite intimidating and a tad threatening to its health as a whole. I think the approach to things is where this might have gone off on a bad note, and in reading the body of the original post, i felt a bit taken back to want to even offer help (due to tone and how it all reads), as it almost seems demanding (which isnt a great word to use, but it does fit best) that we as a whole work on solving these issues, which many of the top of the top and best of the best collectors have faced and heard and dealt with while coming to no conclusive solid evidence against many of these claims.
With all that, I dont want this to come off as ill hearted at all, and I am quite glad you are here to be a part of this wonderful community because this is what helps to keep us all thriving and well, but id just suggest reconsidering your approach while also taking into consideration those here whom are here to help while also taking the time out to search around for these topics among the board and then, if still coming in with questions, to just state and express your frustrations and thoughts with us in a way to where we can all benefit from the conversation without us having to put ourselves into defense mode first so that a healthy talking thread is established.
And lastly, I do hope you come to a conclusion with your card and reach a healthy resolve and hopefully things work out for you in the end and i appreciate you for taking the time to read this.
In the 1st link of your psa 5 charizard, is that feint vertical line on the right side a dent? Its on the right of the holo (not on the holo). I see its in two seperate pictures and looks to be a dent rather than on the case but Im not too sure. Hope this helps
Well on my latest PSA submission I received a PSA 6 on a very mint looking Charizard GX Promo and it took me 2 days to go over the card before I noticed it has an indent. So yeah… Flaws like that are not easy to spot when the card is inside a case and I should have looked better before I sent it in.
The upcharge for more expensive cards is likely do to the extra risk they are taking on by handling(damage or loss) and the financial guarantee. If those were not factors then yes, all cards should cost the same to grade.
Does PSA have a grading rubric available to the public? It would certainly help the public have a better understanding of their process if they were more transparent.
It would be great if they could have different examples for different collectibles though. I regularly see people think that their 55/45 back centering has cost them a PSA 10 when that can’t be the case(and if it is the case then their own employees don’t know their parameters lol.) If they had Pokemon examples showing what they believe to be a gem mint example, showing 60/40 front centering and 75/25 back centering, there’d be less confusion in the community
This is how every business operates. If you take on a higher level of risk and liability, you’re going to charge more. Additionally, do you want your trophy pikachus to be handled with the the same care and delicacy as a bulk order of red’s pikachu?
Makes sense. I just thought it was dumb because the way I understood(or probably misunderstood) from what Ludkins emailed me awhile back is that they encapsulate the card and then upcharge you afterwards based on the now PSA graded card’s value which seemed dumb to me because they should just be charging you based on your own declared value(just like insurance) before they grade it
