Anyone else see PSA is now offering cash outs at the grade reveal? Just a got an email two days ago
Seems like an easy way for manipulation. Grade a borderline 9/10 a 9, with internal marking from the original grader. PSA offers full market price for the 9, or maybe even slightly above. You sell it to PSA, then they just change the label to a 10.
Maybe it isn’t an inside job, but maybe all 9 bought by PSA automatically go through another QA check to see if it could bump to a 10.
Grading companies should not be allowed to sell their slabs. A monopoly company now controls the value of the card
Great point. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more discussion on this across the web. I think the implications are pretty large here.
Are you able to share the email without sharing any personal information? If not no worries, this is the first time I’ve heard about it.
Here’s the learn more link https://www.psacard.com/info/psa-offers
They offer on the PSA app, too, even if you didn’t submit the card yourself. From what I understand, they’re buying on behalf of other parties.
In theory, the 9’s cert would never make it to the market since they would have been cracked. This would give us an idea on if this is happening in mass
Thanks I hate it
I was/am hoping this was more of a bounty system. I’ve been looking for a PSA 10 of xyz card, if someone grades one, PSA please send them an offer of $X.
If it’s PSA buying directly, back to thanks I hate it
I saw this earlier when my latest sub completed and mentioned the same thoughts about the conflict of interest it presents.
I let them purchase one of the cards from my sub that graded 8. (Duplicate card that I have a stronger copy of.) While the grade seemed fair to me, it’s definitely a strong 8 that could have been a 9 in my opinion. I plan on keeping my eyes peeled in the near future to see if it pops up for sale from PSA in a 9 slab…
The funds hit my account literally immediately and will be in my checking account tomorrow, apparently. So it’s about as fast as liquidity gets, to their credit.
Bounty system makes a lot of sense.
Yeah… keeping an eye on that cert too if it actually makes it to the market would be wise too
It did mention in my offer that it was quote unquote “on behalf of their customers.” So this is a possibility.
I’m sure this will come eventually
Ok this is from PSA website:
“Local card shops and verified dealers in the PSA Partner Network are always looking for supply. Through PSA Offers, cards are allocated to fill their specific inventory requests and find new collections to call home.”
So it’s an exclusive bounty system I guess. If anyone is a part of this I’d love to hear how this works.
In my opinion this only means they expect Pokemon prices to moon substantially, this is actually quite positive in my opinion for most people. 99% care about art that is already captured online and really just want liquidity. Collectors will be hurt most.
It probably has a lot to do with the new Gamestop x PSA gambling packs.
Did you get an offer for every card you graded? Or just select ones?
I’ve personally sold around 400 cards directly to PSA through the system. Obviously not all are great, but majority were very very fair considering its an instant cashout with no fees at all.
I’m not someone in a rush to sell cards, but a lot of the offers were REALLY good. Like above eBay last solds on stuff.
Just saw this at the very top of my PSA app, kinda annoying. Is it really “action needed” when I only grade cards for my PC?
I’m not sure if you’re misunderstanding, but the PSA Vault offers are fee-less. You pay 0% fees and get the full offer price. They’ve given me strong offers on some cards and weak offers on others. But to pay $0 in fees for immediate payment without having to ship is A+.
It would be improved by allowing the seller to counter their buyer network.
I think you’re putting on a tin-foil hat. From what PSA has mentioned, it’s their buyer network (e.g., stores, dealers) who buys cards after grading / in the PSA Vault, not PSA as a company.
